As of now? This radio has become an absolute cannon of a base station. I own a couple of GMRS pro HTs, and I love the integration of messaging, APRS, network comms, and analog into a GMRS platform. It’s a pretty awesome Frankenstein of analog and digital, and on a GMRS platform no less, I feel like it punches pretty hard. Now, there’s always room for improvement, the UI on the app could be better, programming could be a little smoother, but that’s not why I’m here.I got the 50 pro the moment it dropped. I have it installed at my house with a run of Bolton through the attic to a 7.2 dbi GMRS mounted on a bracketed j pole, grounded with copper via a lightning arrestor. The antenna sits at about 25 ft agl. Swr: 1.0 on low power, 1.1 on high. The radio catches signal on the front end like an MLB catcher. And it throws that signal like a cannon. The clarity is solid, and has zero problem blanketing my area in solid rf.Now part of this equation is good coax, good grounding, and good antenna. The radio is only a part of the equation. That being said? It matches my set up flawlessly, and performs like a champ. Being able to integrate it immediately with the other radios, fine tune it via the app? Chefs kiss.Again, the app, it’s not bad, but it could be better. Just takes some time to get used to. But I have had zero problems getting it programmed and running on every channel and freq that I wanted. I simply cloned over the channels from the HTs, did a brief firmware update, and we were off to the races. It catches fringe simplex wonderfully, and the reports I get on my signal and clarity are great. The ONE thing that I had to adjust was my mic gain. I needed it to be in high in order to not sound quiet on the other end. That’s a little surprising, and something BTECH needs to look into for future work. Shouldn’t have to crank it all the way to sound normal. But hey, it works great and blasts rf everywhere I want with that omni in the sky.

Awesome radio and easy to program, especially if you already have a radio in the pro series. You just have to clone from your other radio. Match this with a quality antenna and you’re set. I doubted how loud the speaker mic would be, but it’s very loud. I’m very impressed with this radio so far.

Great feature set that goes beyond GMRS transmission, but unfortunately radio has a major flaw. First and foremost this is a GMRS radio which should be capable of performing transmit and receive on the GMRS band without major issues. All the other bells and whistles are useless if it can't perform this basic function well. Like other Chinease brand radios, for instance the Wouxun KG-1000G plus, that I've tested, BTECH 50Pro suffers from a poor receiver. The radio has what I suspect is intermodulation and interference from adjacent frequencies. At times it sounds like digital, perhaps DMR opening squelch. Things I've tried to aleviate the issue, setting squelch to a setting of 9 and setting the FRS freqs to narrow band. None of this helped. It's sad because I really like the radio design and it's other team networking features, but unfortunately I can't recommend this radio in mobile application. My recommendation is to go with a Midland radio, such as the MXT500. Even though they are made in China as well, they do not suffer from the interference issue.
