I love me some buckwheat pillows. I tried for years to love them and had a hard time with the lack of give, then I developed an issue with my spine that necessitated a firmer pillow with the right kind of shape and gave buckwheat another try. I am a restless, hot sleeper, and can offer with confidence that this pillow works for side and back sleeping and stays cool, unlike polyester or memory foam. It's also impossibly comfortable and great for spinal alignment - I have one for my head and one to put between my knees. The shape and size are prefect. These come overstuffed and I had to take about 5 cups of hulls out before it was my "just right." Everyone has their own "just right", not just with buckwheat, but with any sort of pillow, but buckwheat is singular in that it is highly customizable if you can get to the buckwheat and add or subtract as needed. Also worth mentioning: there are no bugs in my pillows.

Disgusting and dirty! I should have listened to the reviews! While I didn’t see any evidence of bugs, the pillow itself was covered in dusty dirt. I washed the cover, and put the insert and cover in the dryer (just in case there WERE bugs 😬🤢)After just one cycle in the dryer the entire pillow case, outer insert, the dryer sheet, and the dryer ITSELF, were all covered in a dusty brown film. The dust wafted out of the pillow and became airborne anytime the buckwheat moved around inside! I hope no one with allergies bought this!It immediately went in the trash. I didn’t even want to risk keeping it long enough return it. Absolutely disgusting. Zero stars. Sorry I didn’t take a picture, I wanted it out of my house ASAP!

I have tried many, many, many pillows to support my neck. The search is over. I have had many accidents that have left my neck in a fragile state. Without the proper support when I sleep, I will have a bad day with neck and shoulder pain. This pillow gave me the best sleep with support for my neck I never knew possible. It is the best! If you have neck problems, do yourself a favor and buy one. Don't worry about the bugs. I didn't have any, but I read it on the reviews. If they occur I will pop it in the microwave for 1 min flip it, 1min. Presto! Awesome pillow!

I am what you would call, a very odd sleeper. I have three pillows, This buckwheat pillow, another buckwheat pillow, and a "foam" pillow. My sleeping habits can have me use any one of those pillows, or no pillow at all. I am also what you call a sporadic floor sleeper. This buckwheat pillow beats the other one hands down. I like how it can lift my head almost in a perfect line to the spine. At first it was kinda sus, but the longer I used it the more I learned to love it. Its my go to travel pillow, floor pillow, and buckwheat pillow. I mostly slept with it in the fall/Winter. Coming into the spring/summer I noticed I trended to the foam/no pillow. So my theory is always have a back up pillow for whenever your body says enough.Cleaning it is no big deal as I prefer to line dry my linen and cotton cloths anyways, so taking this thing out now and again to breath isn't an issue.I thought I wouldn't like the pillow that looks like a decoration piece over one that looks like a real pillow, and I quickly learned that I hated the "real" buckwheat pillow and liked the Decor one. So I am using the other pillows buckwheat to fill this one as time goes on.Its definitely worth a shot. Give it about a week or two before making a choice on if you love it or hate it. It does take some adjusting to it. I do keep it in a "third" pillow case of cotton over the linen one, which helped some with noise and shifting, as well as no poking of random pieces.

I almost didn't buy this pillow after reading the negative reviews. Bugs! AHHH!! Having just gotten rid of a flour beetle infestation in my cupboard, the thought of bugs gave me the heebies. Who the heck would willingly buy something ORGANIC that might have BUGS (because everyone knows that ORGANIC means pesticides or something really toxic was used on the stuffing you're about to put your face on right? Not. So you'd better know how to deal with bugs:))?If you like organic things, no pesticides, no chemicals, you should know how to get rid of bugs, because real organic things often have bugs. I'm going to tell you what to do to kill bugs WITHOUT chemicals...The MICROWAVE! 2 minutes in the microwave kills most bugs.Put your inner pillow in the microwave for 2 minutes. The buckwheat hulls will steam. Yes, steam. If they completely dried out, they'd be so brittle they'd become dust, so there's still moisture in there. Now shake it up, flip it around, and put it back in the microwave for another 2 minutes. You've KILLED all the bugs and probably any eggs. Let the pillow cool down, 4 minutes in the microwave, it's pretty hot.To be 100% sure... now FREEZE the pillow in the freezer for 24 hours. Anything that can survive boiling isn't going to survive freezing as well. So freezing after microwaving should wipe out any still surviving bugs, bacteria, fungus, virus and eggs. Everything except tardigrades. No more bugs. No more bug eggs. If for whatever reason, new bugs smell your delicious buckwheat (because they are grain... and thus FOOD for a whole lot of things besides humans too), back in the microwave they go for 2 minutes. This also kills lice, bedbugs, mites, scabies, mange and whatever else your guests hopefully don't bring into your house. Now you know how to treat ANYTHING organic or inert, from pillowcases to stuffed animals.About the pillow.... omg, I LOVE it! LOVE LOVE LOVE it! No, the zipper isn't flimsy, you just have to be more careful with it, I mean, it's a pillow zipper, not luggage zipper? This pillow is way overstuffed with buckwheat hulls. What a nice surprise!Another reason I reviewed this was reading that someone TOOK THE INNER PILLOW OUT and put it into a bigger pillowcase to use... and when it burst from their own actions, they gave this pillow 1 star. What?I couldn't help it, I had to offer at least a contrasting review, and a comment... Did you look at the fabric of the inner pillowcase? It's a tight weave... but extremely delicate so you can feel the husks. How wouldn't anyone expect that small bag to split? I couldn't believe anyone who did something like that themselves would come here to complain and tell on themselves .... its like if you take the inner tube out of a bicycle wheel, wrapped it in aluminum foil, and proceeded to ride your bicycle every day on your genius inner tube wrapped aluminum foil. Then complain about the bicycle quality when the inner tube popped. Um.I have serious allergies. I THINK they added some dried lavender or another dried herb (maybe wormwood?) to the husks to keep bugs away from the delicious smell of buckwheat. This is bad for me, and maybe good for you unless you hate lavender or you are allergic to it. I'm allergic to it. Argh. I had to wrap the pillow in so far 9 layers. 2 quilted pillowcases doubled, 1 pure silk zippered pillowcase doubled, the original pillowcase, the gift carrying bag it came in, and finally the husk bag. I can still smell it... but it no longer makes me sneeze. Hopefully, this is enough to prevent any dust from reaching me.... only time will tell. So far so good. I LOVE the feel of the rock hard pillow enough to do all this so I can keep using it.Would I buy it again? Oh heck yes. I paid full price for this pillow, and I'm incredibly jealous of Vine Reviewers who get free stuff. If you love organics and you don't know about microwaving bugs, I hope this review helped you and I hope you will like this review too, just so I know it's still worth writing reviews.

I like it because I've been looking for something very firm for a long time now, and finally when I discovered buckwheat pillows, thought I would give this a try because it's relatively inexpensive compared to the other options I am seeing, therefore a good trial investment.Firmness: This pillow is FIRM. It is packed tightly with buckwheat, which means it's a bit shockingly firm at first when transitioning from soft pillow, but you can adjust that by removing some of the filling. I've had pillows in the past that was filled with beans or combination of cotton and beans, this feels a little different. The buckwheat shells make some crunchy noise, which was noticeable for me for the first night or two while falling asleep. But unlike beans, this filling is light, and the pillow is relatively light.Cover: The cover isn't smooth as other reviewers have noted. So would suggest covering it with a small pillowcase just to it's not rough on your face/neck/head.Size: If you move a lot, and are used to large pillows where your head position shifts considerably at night, this might be a little small for you. I don't move much, but for my hands I keep other pillows around while I get used to this.Heat: So far, it's been good for heat. I hate memory foam, down, and anything else that heats up. This seems to breathe well, and I haven't felt it heat up. But only time will tell.
