This thing is way more fun than it probably should be. That first “pop” when you nail a mosquito? Weirdly satisfying. The head swivels so you can sneak up on bugs in corners or under tables, and the handle feels good in your hand, not like those cheap tennis racket ones that crack after a week (it happened on one hit where I missed the insect and got the chair instead). It charges fast, holds a charge for days (or probably over a month easily), and you can set it down like a mini bug lamp when your arm needs a break. The light should draw the insects in.We had a fly explosion because of one afternoon, leaving the back door open. I had even bought some of the sticky tape traps, and they weren’t cutting it. This zapper? They were mostly gone after five minutes of swinging like I was in a bug-based video game. Left it on by the back door afterward and kept hearing the occasional “snap”. It was almost like I was hunting while I made coffee. Felt like justice. The only heads-up is the mesh stays zappy for a bit after you turn it off, so don’t grab it unless you want a tiny shock surprise. It won’t hurt (okay, maybe a little), just makes you say “yep, still on.” For the price, it’s super solid. Lightweight, works indoors or outside, and you don’t have to keep buying batteries that you don't use for anything else. Definitely one of those random things you buy and then wonder how you lived without.

This gadget is pretty effective at attracting and killing flying insects—in the right circumstances. And it’s kind of fascinating, too! It’s easy to use, though it doesn’t come with much in the way of instructions, just what’s printed on the box. It comes with a charging cord but not a plug, so you will need to supply a plug that you can attach a USB cord to. When it is charging, the red light next to the battery symbol comes on, and it turns green when full. There’s a sliding on/off switch, and there are two “on” modes. In mode 1, the product can be handheld and used to “swat” insects in midair. In this mode, the zapper does not light up purple, and it will only zap bugs when you press down on the button with the lightning bolt on it while swatting at the flying bug. That mode can be useful when chasing a fly around the house, but I find mode 2 the most useful. In mode 2, the product emits a purple glow to attract insects to it. Obviously, for this to work, you need to set it up in a dark room. The bugs fly at the light and you will hear a pop or snap sound when they hit the mesh. We have a dog door in our kitchen, so insects come in sometimes with the dog, particularly at night when they are out in force. So, I turn out the lights in the kitchen and setup the bug zapper in mode 2. I can hear it zapping bugs from the living room. It is rather loud. That’s one downside, because you can’t set it up while you are sleeping at night because the sound will awaken you. The other downside is that the battery only lasts 2 or 3 hours in mode 2. Apparently having both the purple light and the electrical field constantly on uses a lot of battery power. I think the confusingly worded note on the product about not unplugging it when the purple light is on means that they recommend keeping it plugged in while using mode 2. However, the cord is not very long, so that limits where you can set it up. So, it’s a useful gadget with some limitations, but it’s satisfying to hear it zap those bugs.

This is a unique product, as it can be used as a handheld zapper, or it can be placed on a table, or hung from something and used as a bug zapper. As the seasons changed, we were inundated with little fruit flies that seemed to come out of nowhere one day..We have tried every type of trap, and while some work relatively well, there were still a ton of these little flies in the kitchen when I'd get up in the morning...This awesome little device allowed me to wipe out every single fly in the kitchen in about 5 minutes...I was swinging away franticly hearing the "pop" "pop" "pop" letting me know that My zapper had found it's victim! It's oddly fun to use, though I'd not recommend touching the screen, even after turning it off, as the capacitors seem to hold one last "zap" for a few minutes, and let me tell you... It won't hurt you if you get zapped, but it's definitely not comfortable! After going on my fruit fly rampage, I set it next to the sink with a small bowl of apple cider vinegar, and over the next hour or so, I heard the occasional "pop" letting me know that the ones who got away in the initial assault had made their way back to the kitchen, only to be lured into the inviting UV glow, where they met their maker. This is an extremely effective way to get rid of flying insects, and have a little fun doing it.The fact that it's rechargeable makes it so much better than the kind that takes 4 "D" cells, because you don't go through $9 worth of batteries every time you give it a good workout. This zapper is a "Yes" in my book! I Love it!
