I successfully started Lisianthus seeds in this tray (on a heat mat). Anyone who’s tried knows that they are notoriously difficult to start and a lot can go wrong over the months of slow growth indoors! I hardened off the seedlings in the tray and they are now blooming. Getting more trays for next year! Highly recommend for those difficult, slow growth plants.

This worked well this past season. You can put more water in it than you might think, so be sure to check water levels frequently!

Bottom watering is the way to go with seedlings. Highly highly highly recommend only one seed per pod. Even though this is XL it still lacks enough rooting room to grow anything hearty without 2 weeks of hardening. Lesson learned but every single unit grew under a good grow light. (Use panel grow lights not the single light one that burpee sells.)

I will update this after I use them. I have started my first seeding and I will use them on my second seeding in 2 week. I will follow up if the process works well. The seed tray is very thin and fragile, I do not think it will last a year. I expect them to crack and break once I try to clean them at the end of the year. If I decide not to use the pellets that come with it and put the tray in my soil starting bin, I will have to be careful not to break them. Compared to any other tray, they are half the material thickness. The clear cover is the same, very flimsey and I expect the corners to crack . Again at least half the thickness of any other covers I have.Value for the money? Very over priced , but good advertising.

Overall, I like this system. I like it over the Jiffy system for a couple reasons:1) You can use regular potting soil OR those soil pods. I used soil this year and did well. I may try the pods next year. However, I like having choice. With the Jiffy system, you can only use the pods2) The cells are HUGE! I had an average germination rate of 50%. Planting 4-5 seeds consistently got me at least 2 seedlings per cell, which I then potted up. I ended up with over 30 seedlings for my small garden. I was impressed! The dome is a great feature but doesn’t fit well. I made it work but it would have been nice to know you don’t get a perfect fit.It looks like everything held up this season so I am looking forward to reusing the system next season. Overall, I am mighty impressed with this product.

I really liked this product. It was easy to put together with step by step instructions. It was all put together , planted and labeled within 15 minutes. I had a greenhouse effect going on after one hour and sprouting seedlings after 3 days! I do wish that 8 plastic tags had been provided but not a real big deal. The use of the 6 tags does allow the lid to be held up in a perfect raised position. I will use them again and again to start my seedlings.*Note - I did place the cells in my laundry room (as the instructions say to start them inside)with washer and dryer each running once a day.

First some people had trouble with expanding the growing medium - my suggestion is to take all the pellets out and put in a bucket to soak a bit - i have never had problem with the pellets and I like to add my own worm compost to enrich the mixture a bit so the bucket works well. One person complained that these are "cheap" and will not last - I have been using and reusing these for several years - after a few years some do get a bit damaged and need replacing but that is mostly from me leaving outside for the growing season next to the garden - usually filled with extra plants I have started-I think the trays work great and would recommend.
