I got this mainly for the ink to have more colors for the quill I already have. This quill is beautiful, but the nibs are complete garbage. For how much this costs, I'm not surprised that the nibs aren't of better quality. I'd definitely spend a little more for good nibs.

This is quite a beautiful box to open - there are two nib holders, one plain and one with a steampunk feather design, and a pen and inkpot holder for the desk, eight inks and eleven calligraphy nibs (plus the two more that are in the holders)I really appreciate the care that went into packaging the inks - they have silicone plugs and are individually bagged to prevent spillage. The nib holders both feel good in the hand and hold standard-size (I test fit a zebra g-nib) calligraphy and drawing dip pen nibs.The nibs and inks in this kit are only so-so. Colorwise they are not as saturated as I personally like my ink to be and there is no information on the inks as far as what kind they are, though a quick test showed they are not completely waterproof though they did not all bleed either. The nibs are fairly stiff and slick and some have trouble holding onto the ink or flowing evenly due to whatever their plating/coating is.I do wish this kit had some kind of small calligraphy guide included - if you were going to get it as a gift for someone interested in calligraphy I would add an instructional book and maybe a bottle of plain black india ink and maybe one or two basic but higher quality nibs to round it out from a usage standpoint.It is a very beautiful set and probably worth it for just the holders if you like the style of them.
