The tool is very easy to use, with a clear display and a simple setup. It only takes a few seconds to test a battery and show the results. It can test the battery life, charge, voltage, and resistance. The tool is very accurate, with consistent and reliable readings. It comes with a soft fabric case for storage and protection. It also has a USB port for emergency power supply. The tool requires 4 AA batteries (not included) to operate, which is a bit old school.

Reading the manual will make you scratch your head, lots of cute words that make you wonder if this tester, any tester, is any good. There is no mention to test alternators, one of the advertised points. It reads about the same as my Foxwell battery tester. At first I thought it was defective because it didn't do anything (value for the money). The battery clips are insulated from the wires (why?) and that makes it hard to get a good connection on motorcycle batteries with square posts. (ease of use) For $20 I figured it was worth a look at. If you can live with a device that makes you doubt it's own accuracy, can be iffy to connect up and hard to read in daylight, then it's a good deal for you. For me, I'll always double check it with a better tester and if it proves accurate enough, I'll start trusting it as a stand alone. (value for the money)

I got this because I had been having the sensation that the battery on my truck was getting ready to go out and when it finally did go out, I was stuck away from home and had to call someone to take me to get a new battery. In theory this meter would have detected the issue with my old battery and I could have simply gone to the store and swapped it out before it failed. So when I saw this meter I ordered it. Once it arrived, I clamped the leads on my new battery to see how it worked. I am by no means an expert or an experienced user with this type of meter, but the manual was clear enough that I was able to run through the functions and it verified that I had a new battery with healthy stats.I am glad I got this meter, because the next time I get a slow crank I will be able to test the battery before I get stuck somewhere. For the price, I think that this is a nice meter/tool to have, especially if you consider that if it shows you a battery is not healthy even one time and prevents you from getting stuck then it is money very well spent.

UPDATE 5/1/24After using this tool at work and around the garage for a while, I have a few key takeaways. First the good. The tool is easy to use, simple, and accurate. While the interface may initially seem confusing, it's actually quite intuitive and user-friendly. This is a simple device with a limited feature set, and it does its job well. I've confirmed the accuracy against results obtained using known good devices, and this one holds its own.Now for the "cons." For one thing I find the screen to be a little tough to see in bright light conditions. It's set up to be white digits against a black background, so the LCD is hard to read if there's too much direct or ambient light. I find it helps to hold the unit under the hood of the car to see the screen more easily. This isn't enough for me to deduct a star, but it could be an issue depending on your specific use case. The other issue is the form factor. This device is pretty big for what it is. This could be a plus in the sense that you're unlikely to lose it in an engine bay, and it certainly fits easily in the hand. But the problem is that it takes up a lot of room, even more than some higher-end OBDII readers. It has a handsome carrying case that keeps it clean and safe but that just adds to the bulk. There's nothing wrong with this if you have the space for it, but for a portable unit the size is really asking a lot considering the limited scope of the job it does. There are other devices available that provide the same (and additional) functions in a smaller package. That said, there's nothing wrong with keeping this around if you want a "second opinion" option to back up your other diagnostics.Original review:I have used this battery tester alongside others including the newest digital model from a certain big box tool store as well as a major brand OBDII scanner. This device is simple to use and provides reliable and consistent results. The test results using my other devices agree with the results reported by this tester, so I believe the device is reasonably accurate. Although the instructions were a little sparse it wasn't hard to figure out how to set the tool up and take a reading. I do notice that it's important to make sure there is good contact between the alligator clips and your battery terminals or the metal in your engine bay, then again this is true of any battery tester. One of the button functions seems redundant unless it's just that I haven't figured out every aspect of the device yet. I will say that it's more important just to know which button activates what feature, and how to read the display, more than it is to know what the button labels mean. I say this because I feel some of the markings may seem confusing. Overall I find this tool to be reliable enough that I'd trust it in a professional setting every bit as much as I'd trust any of the battery testers to which I'm already accustomed. As with any tester, I think it's a good idea to get a second or even third opinion before throwing money at a problem. It's good to have this device in the arsenal as a means to obtain reasonably accurate readings in conjunction with other diagnostic methods.

Of all the batteries that have died on me, not a one failed while I was at home. A dead battery is no fun wherever it happens, but if you're home at least it's at least more comfortable than the cold rain, or outside a closed business, in a dead part of town. When I set up my calendar in Jan., I set up one for my car. Checking the water, and the anniversary date on the battery is on there. There are places you can pull in for a quick battery check, but then who has time for that? Not to mention when you're a woman, they always tell you things are broken. Now you can check your battery a couple of times a year. And the instructions are easy to read. You do not need a degree from MIT to use this. If there is a woman in your life who lives alone or is off to school, this is a must have. These are also great to have in case you come across someone else with car trouble, church or grocery store parking lot, you can narrow down the issue real fast, and be an auto super hero.
