I bought it for nebula and star clusters visual. It works awesome for my SCT 8" , very wide field of view and perfect contrast. Most surprising thing - it works perfectly with 0.63 focal reducer and gives even brighter picture of nebulas without any signs of distortion on the edges.Definitely mast have for deep sky objects visual.

I bought this to go with my new Celestron 130EQ 5-inch reflector so that I could have the widest possible actual field of view. Images were bright, flat, and well focused throughout the entire visual field. However, I ended up having to return this eyepiece because the resulting 16x magnification was just under the usable magnification for this scope and I would see a blurry shadow of the secondary mirror and support if my eye got too far from the eyepiece. I bought a Newer 38mm instead...which I hope will be as good visually but not show the diagonal mirror [enough to be annoying].

First off, let me start this review by saying, for an eyepiece made in China, this thing feels very well built. It's solid in your hand, actually weighs a good bit for an eyepiece. The view is incredibly clear, and the field of view is very wide. This is great for viewing large swaths of the sky at a time, not so good for small targets like planets. This is more of a nebula/star cluster eyepiece. It is a plossl design, so there are two doublet lenses inside. It added no extra chromatic abberation, so it's perfect for reflector and Cassegrain telescopes that don't produce CA on their own. On my 102mm refractor, the views were great, but because that scope is an achromat, there was chromatic abberation, but not from the eyepiece. For under $50, I can't see why you wouldn't buy one of these if you're on a budget. Eye relief is about an inch, so you don't have to hold your eye on the glass for once.

Tried this eyepiece when it arrived on a Celestron C8. Good for wide field observing and is sharp out to the field edges. Unfortunately there is a blob of some chemical on the eye lens. The depth of of the lens in the mount will make cleaning a challenge and if a q-tip and alcohol doesn't remove the blemish easily, then back it goes.

Longer focal length eyepieces often get overlooked, especially by those just getting started in amateur astronomy. Most beginner astronomy kits (Optical Tube Assembly w/finderscope, mount, eyepieces) usually include two focal lengths to get you started: a 25mm and a 10mm. My own experience tells me that anyone who wants to start a successful observing run needs to have a 40mm eyepiece to perform field narrowing from finderscope to eyepiece. a 40mm may not exactly be an "observer's eyepiece" except for the most extended objects, but it is an absolute must-have to narrow the field around a target. In fact, since I typically run several rigs at once at my college's star parties, I found that I needed to have at least two of these eyepieces. I already had a Sirius Plossl 40mm from Orion, and the Celestron Omni is an equivalent (nay, nearly identical) optical stack to work with a second 'scope, so I wouldn't have to keep hunting for a 40 when acquiring a target in the eyepiece. This is a great, yet often overlooked, workhorse eyepiece.

I bought this 40mm lense for use with my 127mm(5 inch) Newtonian Reflector.I wanted something that would gather as much light as possible, for viewing deep sky objects, such as Galaxies, Nebulae, and Globular Clusters. The Celestron Omni series 40mm was perfect for this application.I can see quite a few deep sky objects through this lens that were nearly invisible through smaller lenses I own.It also lends a great amount of clarity too the easier ones like The Orion Nebula. The Omni Series is a great line of high quality lenses for hobbyist prices. The lens is made of metal, not plastic, and is made with fairly rugged design. It could survive an accidental drop, as mine unfortunately has.It still works perfectly. The rubber eyepiece folds out, which works great, and has not shown any age or wear after a year and a half of use.I recommend it.
