This essentially does almost everything your old Walkman did, but it also adds the SD cart slot so that you can digitize old cassettes directly to the card. Then, you can take that card to your PC and do whatever you want with the files. If you have a bunch of old cassettes where you'd like the content to be digitized this would be an inexpensive and easy way to do so.Remember that all these modern tape players, decks, etc. all use the same exact mechanism. It's not like it was in the 1980's when there were several manufacturers making different kinds and quality of tape mechs. There's only one, as of this review, so that means to pick the player/recorder with the features you like and know that all of them will have the same cassette mech internals.

I like this device's ability to easily convert old cassette tapes into digital files, MP3s. This is a fantastic way to preserve cherished music and recordings while giving them new life. The built-in microphone is also a nice touch for recording directly onto a cassette, and the LCD makes it easy to navigate tracks.CON: The sound quality can be somewhat inconsistent, especially when compared to modern digital playback devices.

This compact case is just perfect for nostalgic listening to old timers from our grandparents time. It is very compact and so modern that it has a micro sd card slot. On top of that you can record on blank tapes using the recording button for songs from the SD card.

I absolutely love how easy this cassette player makes it to convert old audio tapes to digital files. The fact that I don’t have to dub everything to a PC is a total game-changer. I can hand this off to the wife and kids, and they can load the tapes, let the unit do its thing, and rip the audio directly to a micro SD card. Later, I can just offload the files at my convenience. The built-in microphone and speaker add some nice versatility, and the LCD display makes it easy to navigate without fuss. The USB-C connection is another modern touch that makes it feel much more user-friendly compared to older conversion methods. If you’re looking for a straightforward, efficient way to preserve old tapes, this player is a must-have. It’s simple, family-friendly, and does exactly what it promises without adding unnecessary steps. A fantastic solution for anyone with a box of old tapes waiting to be digitized!

I got this for family history - to help transcribe tapes from an ancestor more directly than putting a mic in front of an old tape-deck stereo (no line-out on that). The tape player is semi-independent of the digital portion - you can play tapes in the classic manner of sliding it in and pressing play. The digital side is in addition to this - it'll record whatever is playing and can also play back its own files (and seems to be able to transfer digital to tape too if the tape record button is pressed, though I haven't tried that). The buttons and little screen on the front are only for the digital side.It comes with a 16gb microSD card and a USB card reader. It also comes with a mini CD that has an older version of Audacity on it in Chinese (just download the latest version from their site after searching it - it's free). With that you can use line-in from this device's audio-out port to record directly on the computer instead of to the SD card (theoretically letting you get WAV uncompressed audio instead of MP3, though for spoken word it really doesn't matter much). So far it seems fairly easy to use - put in a tape, on the digital side hit record, and then hit play on the tape. Once the tape is done stop the recording, and then pop the SD card in a computer. It can be powered by AA batteries or USB (it comes with a cable for that, but not a wall adapter).
