This pump has died three times in two years. Save yourself some money and buy a quality product. I will not be buying a third replacement. I am done. It also makes way too many air bubbles in the water column. This product is garbage.

I was using it for months now with no foam Trying to adjust it every day and leaving it on low so I don’t have many micro bubbles I finally got my test kit and when it was all off I put coarse black sponge and crushed coral in it and proper ph by api. I have a filter on my water and thought that would be enough.A week later when I was going to try adjusting it again it started foaming!I was ready to throw it away. Don’t give up because it could be anything from what is in your water, salt levels,ph,or even just if your tank is too clean I still use the proper ph because besides fixing the ph it makes tap water safe .

It didn't work even for 1 minute. I turned it on, and it made some noise and the pump is broken. There is a big bump in the middle of the pump and I don't even know how to replace the part.

I've used Coralife products over the years on many different tanks. Their saltwater products are typically a good value and I've never had to return any Coralife hardware for any reason, nor had one fail or not work as advertised. Yes, you can pay a LOT more money on higher-end products for just a little more function, and many advanced reefers do. I needed a budget skimmer for a 20-gallon nano reef build in a standard 20 gallon tank that had been a mbuna breeder tank. I have a limited budget to spread across several tanks, environments, and inhabitants I can't spend a grand on a protein skimmer for a 20-gallon nano. I saw this filter/skimmer combo on Amazon, and it looked like a perfect solution, especially for the price. I trusted Coralife based on my own experience, and was actually amused by some of the poor product reviews on Amazon. This is a great filter and it performs exactly as it is supposed to. After reading the manual (many clearly didn't) I setup my tank and ran my Coralife HOB filter for a few days with only a sandbed while I waited for my live rock to arrive. The air intake is not objectionably noisy, nor are the few micro bubbles coming back into the tank a big problem (if you're getting thousands of micro bubbles in the tank, seat the filter media cartridge firmly in the filter box frame, as those bubbles are going UNDER your filter media and into your tank, rather than being caught by your filter media). Of course the protein skimmer had no waste to remove from the clean seawater, so the cup remained empty as the unit broke-in. Then my live rock arrived and after quick dunk to remove dead matter into the tank it went. Overnight I had a half-cup of stinky skim, and after work I had another half cup. The skimmer is certainly doing its job, and the filter does exactly what it was designed to do removing larger particles and running the water through granulated carbon. Since my live rock is my bio-filter, the Coralife Salt Water Filter and Protein Skimmer fit this build perfectly. As a bonus, this filter is based on the Aqueon Pro series HOB filter, and the Aqueon-L cartridge is an exact fit. Now it's up to me to manage my water quality. This filter/skimmer combo will make that task easier. In closing, based on my hands-on experience, most of the negative reviews regarding the function of this filter are 1: a lack of experience, 2: a lack of understanding on how these work, or 3: you expected a $1,000 protein skimmer for 35 bucks. If that's the case, if you need pinpoint control over the dry skim/wet skim output on a small nano tank, or if you breed SPS, go get a Reef Octopus.

I recieved the new filter. Luckily I didnt remove my existing one. I figured I would run them both to quick cycle the new filter. As soon as the unit filled with was a steady stream ran from the back. I removed it and found a hole in the bottom of the unit. I cant say how well it worked, but realized it cant be trusted if out of the box it leaks.

It's been 2 months seems to be working well skimmer hard to dial in. Also it takes a while to break in a lot of micro-bubbles into the aquarium in the beginning.

This filter works great if your willing to keep it clean enough to work properly . I don't own any big tanks and this filter great for my smaller reef tanks . I have a 10 gallon reef tank that stays very clean with 2 small clowns, a Scooter Blenny , Yasha white ray shrimp Goby , and filter skims like a champ . I have to clean the filter cartridge once a week and about once a month clean the air intake valve for the skimmer or the skimmer stops working . I have this filter on all 5 of my small reef tanks , the biggest being my 50 gallon tank . In my experience with this filter it doesn't work great by itself but if you have another filter to work with it seems to do better . The 10 gallon tank I spoke of earlier has 2 filters on it . The other is a Aqua clear 20 gallon filter which is a great little filter also but works better if you use with another filter . I hope this helps those of you that love the smaller reef tanks like I do . With a little work with this filter you can have success in your reef tank like I have experienced in my love for nano reef tanks .
