Cute product. I definitely need more experience as my fish was more of a blob. But it came with everything to start someone off. Very good product and would make a great gift to someone who wants to start crocheting.

Oof, this set. I am torn. I managed to make one ball and started the second before just throwing it all aside. xD Maybe this is a me problem, but here's what's up.This was the literal first thing I ever tried to do with crocheting. Had NO idea about any of it, so I was really coming at this as a beginner. They really do have a detailed step by step video where they show every single stitch that happens in the entire project, which is pretty incredible. They explain key terms and show things pretty clearly, highlight specific spots, etc. and yet I -STILL- had to look up other videos to clarify some things. Once I got that extra help I was able to continue, and honestly I enjoyed it a lot for a while!The good things: the yarn is thick and smooth so it was really easy to work with. It was usually easy to see where a stitch hole was meant to be, after a bit of practice figuring out what loop was what. I definitely undid and restarted at least 10 times to practice and make sure I was getting it right, and I eventually did. There also seems to be PLENTY of material, so no worries on not having enough fluff or thread or whatever.My frustrations come from starting the small rings of the circles. Holy crap, it felt completely impossible sometimes to put a stitch through under the first row after pulling the first row tight. If there's any kind of alternative way to do that, it should be done, because I just -could not- get it and was tired of stabbing and straining my hand to try to make it happen. So I have a lumpy ball taunting me from the shelf and I will probably still do crochet because I enjoyed the middle part of this, but I think I'm staying away from projects done in rounds for a bit.So my recommendation is that if you are an ACTUAL beginner and have never ever done anything with crochet, for the love of god, DO NOT start yourself off with a project that works in rounds. Look up something that just has you go in a few rows, maybe change off colors, something like that. A bookmark. A scarf for a baby. Just practice some stitches and then undo them. Learn how to make each stitch and what the different basic terms are. THEN you can pick up one of these kits with a round and try to get a hand in. I only got to the part of "make a ball" and there are many other bits that seem like they would have been much harder, like the beard and wobbly hat rim and little ball decorations, so who knows how those would have gone.
