This class 1 trailer hitch and ball mount combination is designed for a custom fit on select years of the Volkswagen Passat (see application info to verify fitment). The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. No matter where you're headed or which season of the year you’re towing in, this CURT hitch is equipped for long-lasting resilience to the elements. It features an open-back receiver for easy cleaning, and it comes with all the hardware necessary for the installation.

I wanted to add some utility to my ‘02 Passat wagon, which this did in amazing fashion. This arrived quickly, installed in about an hour and I’ve towed my 4x8 trailer many times with no issue. My car is a manual 1.8t and I feel very comfortable towing 1500+ pounds with this trailer hitch. The only down side is the 1 1/4 inch receiver... many cargo carriers are 2 inch and with an adapter they tend to sit pretty far off the bumper. Highly recommended to anyone that wants to add some versatility to their car.

I bought this for my 99 Passat. It was a direct fit. It was a bit difficult to find the right size drill bit to install this, but once I found it, it was a piece of cake. I do have experience with cars, but am not a professional. I was able to install it in about 2 hours. The directions were simple and easy to follow. I then pulled a trailer from Utah to Alabama, without a problem. I now use it for a bike rack, and it is stable. I would recommend this, especially because it is an exact fit.

This fit well on my 2004 Passat Wagon. I would recommend to use "quick-grip" type bar clamps to hold the hitch in place while you markt he locations for drilling the holes in the bumper and spare tire well to fasten the hitch. The included supplies to install the bolts in the bumper are a nifty bit of kit, too!

works well, but there is a lot of play in the square peg connection that produces a lot of clunking noise when the trailer unloads and reloads the tongue while going over any bump.

Easy install, looks great. Only had to drill 3 holes and it looks factory. Fits snug against the bumper and came with a pin. Can't beat the price.

Hitch was very good fit and looks factory installed, very solid and is a good product. Shipped quickly and the biggest problem was drilling the mounting holes. Good product!

orderd and i recieved it a day or 2 later. Installation was theoretically easy. Use a jig say to cut lower fascia, turned out clean. Had difficulty drilling the holes throught the bumper. Peeled the tips off of my MAC and Craftsman drill bits. May have been the angle i was trying to drill or just to drunk. Ended up blowing a hole with cutting torch. Worked good and quick and looks real good. Made my own snowboard rack to put in the reciever hitch and took a successful 1000 mile vacation no problem.
