Pros: I didn't have to cut into the bumper of my 2005 Volvo V70R to make this hitch fit, and it's fairly unnoticeable.Cons: The width of the entire hitch makes it such that the bolt holes in the hitch are slightly too narrow for them to easily line up with the holes on the vehicle. You can still mount the hitch, but have to be super careful to not thread them incorrectly. It seems like an easy fix for Curt. All they need to do is modify the bolt hole to a slight ellipse, so I'm surprised there are so many reviews complaining about the same thing.

A smaller hydraulic floor jack will be your best friend in getting this on easily. I put it on by myself in about 45 minutes on my ‘07 S60. Took off the tow ring on the passenger side first, dropped the muffler hanger, then got the hitch in place and started the bolts on the passenger side, but left them a little loose to give some play in mounting. Stuck an old gallon paint can under the center of the hitch to support it. Next step is to get the other side of the hitch over the muffler hanger. Once it is, put the floor jack under the driver’s side of the hitch and gently jack it to get it up to the frame - it’s a very tight squeeze alongside the spare tire well, and the jack will ease it into place. Then use the jack to bring the muffler and its mount up to the hitch plate, so you can get the bolts in. From there, it’s just a matter of tightening up the bolts all around. The hitch looks good. Packaging is pretty heavy and the hardware was secured to the hitch with a crazy amount of tape - it wasn’t going anywhere. I can see, though, how the slightest difference in width could make installation difficult if not impossible, as other reviewers have stated. Without the jack to push the hitch up aside the spare tire well, this would have been a much more difficult task.

O.k. when I ordered this item I was specifically asked for my vehicle make/ model/ year. Based off that info an instruction booklet for my vehicle would have been great !! I watched a video on you tube that said you had to remove the bumper ( don't do this!! ) FACT: no additional hardware will come with this product !! You shouldn't need any either. just don't overthink it..It is a perfect fit using all your existing hardware and the 4 extra bolts for increased support. I felt so dumb for watching that video... Open your box first look inside and see what is there !! Then be very aware the people making the install videos work for dealerships and will show you the most messed up method to justify that BS charge. Great product .Oh, the pin that holds the hitch in the reciever is NOT included.

Perfect fit. Took it to my mechanic and they installed it in 20 mins. Looks like it is part of the car.

Relatively easy to install with basic tools, but not a perfect fit.It needed the plates spread apart by 3/8" with a hydraulic jack so the mounting bolts wouldnt cross-thread.Otherwise a good look and ground clearance

I purchased this hitch for my 2004 Volvo XC70. The hitch arrived very well packaged and free of damage. The 6 bolts, washers and lock washers were in a bag secured to the receiver hitch. Included was an instruction sheet that was easy to follow. The installation was very easy. I removed the right side tow bracket from underneath the car (2 bolts) and the 2 bolts securing the muffler hanger. Next I maneuvered the driver side hitch bracket past the rubber hanger. Using a screwdriver I moved the hanger bracket so the holes in the bracket and hitch lined up with the threaded holes in the car and inserted one bolt and partially tightened it. Next I maneuvered the passenger side of the hitch so that the holes in the hitch lined up with the threaded holes in the car. I inserted one bolt and partially tightened it. Next I installed the remaining 4 bolts and partially tightened them. Once all 6 bolts were attached I tightened the 6 bolts. Note: I used Thread-Locker on the bolts for a more secure installation. Hitch is solid and fits well.

The fitment on this hitch was extremely poor and prevented my from installing on my 2004 V70.The vertical brackets were extremely tight around the the cargo area (not gas tank as other reviewer mentioned) and required a lot of force to get the mounting plate flush with the rails. Once in position, I found that the bolt hole spacing on the hitch was off - both sides were too narrow such that it was very difficult to thread in the bolts correctly. I managed to get 5 of the bolts in, but the last bolt refused to go in straight and would instead cross-thread due to the angle caused by the misaligned bolt holes. You would think that if Curt is mass producing these things they could take the time to get their jigs sorted, but evidently not... I eventually gave up and decided it was worth causing permanent damage to my car if the bolts get stuck or damage the threads. This could perhaps be fixed by drilling the holes out, stretching the brackets with jack, or cutting and extending as another reviewer did. I don't have the tools or time to deal with this headache of a product.I thought this would be an easy install and good fit (as marketed extensively by Curt). Instead, I will have to return this product and search for OEM or other options. From the other reviews, it sounds like other people have had this same issue. Not impressed!

Like many others here, the hitch looks manufactured well, but not at the correct width to fit my Volvo XC70. My version was barely wide enough to fit over the cargo box (with a lot of muscle), but the holes in the hitch were too narrow to fit the per-threaded holes in the frame by about 1/4 inch. You would think that it would not be that hard to measure each hitch for the correct width between the center of the bolt holes - or I guess Volvo's manufacturing could be off by 4-8 mm - or both. Update: I reviewed the information on etrailer.com on what to do if the hitch plates have "flexed" during manufacture or shipping. After another 1.5 hours (2.5 hours total) with a car jack and 4x4 post I "adjusted" the plates enough to easily slide the hitch into place, but the holes were still not aligned. Using a short pry bar against the cargo box that hangs down between the sides of the hitch (no, that's not the gas tank) I was able to flex the plate enough for my wife to get the bolts in place. This is definitely a two person job! The hitch looks great and I expect it to work great.

I have a 2001 Volvo V70, and wanted to add a hitch primarly to hold a four bike mount. This is of course an old car with lots of miles, so I had no interest in spending a lot of money. This was the ideal product for me. Amazon had it at a great price, and the Curt reputation made me feel comfortable with the purchase. The item arrived exactly as described and contained all of the items required for installation, along with easy to follow step by step instructions. I had this installed myself in under 30 minutes. It looks great, meaning that it is very subtle, and the hitch works perfectly with my four bike Thule rack. Most importantly, I can now safely transport four bikes on the back of my Volvo without having broken the bank.
