This tool is very much like a small rotary tool. As such, it works great. It comes with the same type of attachments I use for my rotary tool. However, it is rather unwieldy to use as an engraving tool. It would be similar to taking a very fine drill bit to engrave. If you have very steady hands and great handwriting, you would most likely have more success than I did. It is a great size though- very compact.

This compact engraving pen is surprisingly nice. It includes a ton of bits as well as saw blades to turn it into a micro-dremel. It is about the size of a highlighter, making it a very compact alternative to a standard dremel or other micro drill - a good product for detail work. I like that it includes stencils, which are nice for practice or as a start to engraving. The instructions are sparse, and I feel like the product description photos are necessary to supplement the instructions for information. Despite that, it's quite nice and a good value for the money.

Pretty good engraver for the price, just don't expect any miracles for $20-30, depending on whether there's a sale.

Perfect for engraving personal items made from many different materials. Good for artwork on wood, metal, glass and stone. I'm not an artist but this tool makes me want to try.

I ordered this engraving pen for beginners to teach myself how to use the tool as I learn how to sculpt. There are a few good things about this engraving pen.1) The description says: "This engraving pen for all materials". I am going to assume it means wood, paper, metal, and resin. It did not list anything so I have to assume.2) It does list the bits that are included: 30 for sculpting; 2 for drilling; 1 bit for using to screw in one of the three saws; and 1 "flame" (sticker on the case that holds it) bit, but does not have any explanation as to what the "flame" bit is used for. I guess I have to find out myself.3) It has two 3.5 inch square stencils of 3/8 inch "stencil font type" in lower case alphabet, numbers and characters.4) It has three 3x7 inch stencils: holidays, animals, and other decoration type shapes. There are a few confusing pieces of information.1) There is an image in the advert that shows 9 different types of engraving bits, 4 of them are not in the kit: no polishing/derusting bit; no engrave/polished bit; no polishing/waxing bit; no polished bit. There is no information as to whether or not these should be included or are just suggestions in getting because they are not included. It does not even say where these that are not included can be found to purchase.2) The description says the engraver is for beginners but the instruction manual does not explain how to put a bit in very well. There are some parts of the instructions that it expects the reader to already know and beginners like me don't know. Example: Most engraving tools/drills will have the head screw to open wider for a bit to be put in and then screwed to close it and tighten the bit, using the head. It took me 20 minutes to see that the head, that holds the bit, has nothing to screw open and close with. I had to figure it out myself that the bit has to be pushed in hard to be caught by a rubber or silicone piece that is inside the head to hold the bit steady and then I had to grab and pull hard to get the bit back out. I feel this piece of information should be included in the manual.3) The manual says the engraving pen should be 50% charged and that it will take only 30 minutes to fully charge it and one hour if it is empty (no lights) and needs a full charge . It also says that the charging lights will say how much it is charged (one, two or three lights as indicators not digital readouts) and when it is full the charging lights will turn off. Well, all of the charging lights were on (3). I plugged in the charging cable to charge and waited 30 minutes but the lights did not go out. So I am confused as to what to do now: leave it on charging until something happens or use it and just let it run out. I am sure there is a reason for them to instruct us to fully charge it before first use.

This is pretty well made for the type of tool it is. The size is very convenient and if it had more power it would be easy to use. The bits that come with it are great. That being said I'm consistently disappointed by tools of this type. This one, like the others I have tried, does not have enough power to drill a pearl, and I seriously doubt that it would affect most rocks (though some of the softer ones may work). Given the amount of power, I'm not sure what its functionality actually is. Overall this tool is on par with the others I have tried, but if you want to do anything that requires power (enough to say, drill a pearl) I would advise just investing in a flex shaft and calling it a day. It will save you batteries and frustrations.
