I planned to use this at a drive-in movie, and I chose this over other products as it claimed to include a rechargeable battery. That is not the case and there was no rechargeable battery included with my radio. I will have to purchase batteries separately to meet my needs, as the return/replacement options for this product are inconvenient and expensive. The radio does work while plugged in, and it is cute. However, this is not what I paid for.

This is the third radio I've bought from this brand and so far it's perfect. The Bluetooth section isn't full of noise and is clear as a bell. I have to play with the radio more but it seems all right. The handle is built in, there's no strap to attach, and it uses a USBC connection to charge its internal battery, so no having to use the AC cord to charge it. Oh, and the AM section of the radio seems to be stepped in 10 kilohertz steps! This is how you make a retro-styled radio and BT speaker!

At $19 bucks this seems like a good deal. It looks nice. The buttons and ports are easy enough to uderstand and it appears to be made of strong plastic. The plastic is slippery but it has a handle for when you need to move it around. Clearly if you leave it in cold weather and drop it on concrete you are probably going to crack something. You might even crack it if the plastic is warm. So don't drop it on concrete. This is primarily an indoor speaker. You can of course us it outside but keep it dry and away from water and open flame and it should be fine. It's not a "tough" device. Treat it accordinly. It has an ok sound for a small background speaker. It has a flat-ish balanced-ish sound at all volume levels. If you wanna geek out about it, to my ear, the mids are a bit weak and the hi end sparkles a bit more than I prefer on some content but I found that when I stopped hyper focussing it was fine. As always if your playback device has an EQ on it you can get a little more out of it depending on your tastes. But to be honest it sounds smooth enough as is that I don't really feel the need to mess with it. Over all its a solid little speaker for anywhere you want some sound company but aren't trying to create a submersive audio experience.Plugging headphones in does shut off the speaker. Thank you! Nice to still see the headphone jack on a bluetooth device. Adds to the functionality. Thumbs up! Hope the person on the subway next to me uses it or BT buds.I'm in Eastchester NY. The SW Radio (short wave) picked up 2 or 3 choppy Spanish language stations that never fully dialed in clearly but were audible enough to understand. AM was typical and FM was good. It has a long antenna and a large enough analog dial that lets you see what frequency you are tuning in. No digital display. The TF/Micro SD card port is spring loaded and the card is flush when inserted. The card springs out far enough to grab with your fingers when ejected. You can load songs on the card, or USB Drive, in folders and it plays the songs fine. It goes through one folder/album then moves to the next. Not sure how it chooses the next folder/album. Alphabetically? Anyway it's nice that folders don't confuse it. Not sure if it has a size limitation to what cards or flash drives it can use. I'm using an 8GB thumb drive and a 16GB Micro SD and have been listening to Rammstein, Abba and Pink Floyd all morning. Yeah. That's right. I got range son!The USBA Port charged all my external devices like phones, watches and flashlights - but where does it pull the power from? Internal rechargeable battery first then the removable D batteries? Straight from the wall if you are connected to an outlet? Just curious. The D-218 has no indicator to show you the charge level of either the built in battery or the removable D batteries. Most of my bluetooth devices report their charge level to my Macs or my iPhones. It would be nice to see that feature on this device.I don't think you can replace the built in rechargeable battery. Seems like you have to take the unit apart to try. It would have been nice if it was set up to work with user removable rechargeable batteries that would also charge inside the unit when plugged in. But it does work with removable D batteries so once the internal battery dies you can still use rechargeable Ds and or plug it in. Unless there is some built in circuit that kills everything once the internal battery dies. I'll give the company the benefit of the doubt and trust that is not the case.Over all it's a solid little speaker with a SW/AM/FM radio, Micro SD Card, UB Thumb Drive and Bluetooth playback and 3 power options... as well as being a power bank for smaller devices. If you are in the market for it and you can find a nice looking device with the same features at a cheaper price I'd like to hear about it.If I had a friend looking for something like this I would tell them to take a look at it and def put it in their compare list. The only outlier here is durability. This review comes a few days after having used it and I'm just using it around the house. Only time can tell how it will hold up.At $19 Bucks, for what it is, it feels like 4 stars to me.06/02/24 Update - Review still stands... but I am looking for something with a bit more bass. Nothing to ruin the neighbors day or anything but just enough to sense more of the bottom while I'm relaxing on the deck. But again - $19 bucks.

This retro radio is well worth the value of $19 at the time of my review. I have another retro radio that is wooden I love, and I liked the idea of another retro style that could be charged to keep on hand for outages. I was surprised to see that this radio works in a part of my home where the other does not get good reception, even without the antenna up on it. The sound quality is awesome also, and it was very easy to find my usual stations on it. It actually is making my old favorite wooden retro radio look lower in quality, which was a surprise to me considering it is just what feels like plastic. That is the only thing that bothers me, that it feels like it might break easy if dropped hard, but it does not look cheap. I just wish it were metal. I can see myself getting a lot of use out of this otherwise, and considering it was half the price of my old, I could see getting it again.
