I have a MOXA RS-485 to TCP/IP protocol adapter at an airport. The serial side where this connector is, recently had water dripping on it which caused an intermittent RS-232 comms connection to the MOXA. I purchased two of these, but used only one. The RS-232 breakout board inside the shell is a bit confusing as it has all the 9-pins connected straight-through to the 9 pins of the DB9, but it had a 10th connection on the breakout board labeled "GND". In RS-232, Ground or "GND" is usually pin 5. I think the extra 10th connection on this breakout board is for the shield wire which should also be grounded on a communications cable, but only on one end of each cable. I'm only saying it has such a pin. I did not use it. I only used the pins 2 and 3 for Rx and Tx and pin 5 which is typical ground. It worked perfectly. I used to have intermittent connectivity if I wiggled the RS-232 cable. I used this Female DB9 breakout board jack with a case and it works perfectly. The connection is now solid. The communications now does not waver when I wiggle the cable anymore. I only had to buy 2 connectors instead of 10, so it is a fair price given the quantity I purchased. I would buy these again, and I will, but I only need one and now I have one extra. If I don't lose it. I would buy this again.

I'm annoyed by not receiving what was in the picture. As you can see from the two pictures, what I got was not what is shown in the product image: the product image shows the female connector having nuts and the mail connector having screws; instead there are long screws on both the connectors I received.I need to make a custom cable - in order to mate it with standard DB-9 cables, one end needs hex-nuts and the other needs screws. Thus I ordered the 1Female+1Male combo set because the picture showed exactly that. CenryKey also sells a 1Female+1Male+Nut combo set, but the picture for that set shows hex-nuts for both the male and female connector. Note also that the "Package Content" section in the Product Description is identical for both products - specifically there is no mention of a "nut" being in the "+Nut" combo and the Package Content for both mentions "Long screws". Obviously the pictures and the Package Content description are inconsistent. So, I ordered according to the picture, assuming that would be correct. It's not.All is not totally lost - I can go scrounge up some hex standoffs and make it work; fortunately the fastener holes are threaded on both the male and female connectors.However, I should not have to do this!!! They should have thrown in a set of hex nuts with threaded standoffs. This is why I gave this product two stars. I haven't connected the wires to the connectors yet, but the connectors look good otherwise. If CenrayKay either sends me the missing hex standoffs or fixes the pictures and description, then I'll raise my rating. Otherwise, be forewarned that the pictures/descriptions are a mess and you might or might not get what you're looking for.

There are a number of DB9 breakout boxes, but I chose this as it could readily handle connecting to other DB9 connectors either with or without standoff screw terminals.This worked perfectly, as I had both a male and female connector to allow me to build a custom cable. The screw based wire hold downs worked well, and it is solidly built.
