Looks like it was supposed to be sticky side to the tree! Have one of each, so catching the old school sticky way as well as the smooth side. Not seeing anything on the smooth side, which I assume is how it should be?Big enough roll, depending on number and size of your trees. I should get quite a few seasons out of these though.

First time using insect tape. You basically take the roll of tape and roll it around the tree sticky side out, and tape it to itself. I installed this in the rain and it still stuck. The large roll means this can easily be used for wider or narrower trunk trees. It is sticky enough for an insect, but doesn't feel too sticky that it could catch birds or larger mammals. The large roll also means I can easily replace it if it gets full of bugs or dirt, or otherwise gets damaged.

This tape is good to taping trees to deter infestation by various pests. Best if applied using two people and works well as described!

I got this to hopefully help manage a leaf roller infestation on my oak trees, only time will tell if it works.I didn’t realize when I ordered it, that the tape was only sticky on one side, and that is the side that sticks to the tree trunk. The exterior side of the tape is smooth and shiny, and you are invited to use a product like “petroleum jelly” to coat the exterior of the tape in after you have applied it to the tree.Creating a sticky petroleum jelly layer to “hopefully“ trap small crawling insects trying to ascend up the trunk.Had I known I was just ordering, what is basically a paper tape with a smooth side, that I have to DIY my own sticky agent to the exterior.I would not have ordered it.Because I already own various types of tape with similar qualities😒.

This tape is perfect for my ant infestation on my citrus tree. You can use it by itself or with tanglefoot. It is easy to use. I wear gloves with it so it doesn’t hit my fingers. This roll has a lot on it, so it will last me a long time.

Likely worth trying as a rain-resistant barrier for crawling insects, though it might need lotion and multiple layers for best results.📝 Additional Notes: Application was easy with the self-adhesive overlap. It stayed put through rain and reduced crawling bugs, but didn't eliminate them entirely. Lotion is recommended for better performance, and it won't stop flying insects. The tape is somewhat flimsy and tore a bit during application

This tree insect tape actually stays on in the rain ( surprised ). We have had several days of rain and I was expecting it to fall off after a few days, but they are still there. I do have mine around a metal stand post and a cedar raised bed post. I got the tape in hopes of keeping the fire ants out of my raised/elevated garden beds. I will have to give it a bit more time to see if they work for this. I noticed in the instructions, they recommend to put Vaseline or lotion on top of the slick side once you have it taped on. So, if the tape alone does not work, I will put some Vaseline on and see how that goes. The tape is easy to cut and sticks to itself fairly nicely in an overlapping wrap. Will update on how well it works preventing fire ants from getting in the garden beds. For now 3.5 stars.

This tape is sticky on one side and slick on the other. The sticky side is to hold it to the tree, the slippery side is so bugs and insects can't crawl over it. The tape is on the flimsy side and tears quite easily. It also doesn't bend very easy - like paper versus a flexible duct tape. The good part is there is plenty of length, so if you mess up it isn't an issue to just redo it.
