When you have a group of people around you who all play stringed instruments, and you play yourself, I find it useful to have a tool that will do the job properly the first time. It has two diamond coated edges and the rest of the tool, outside of the handle, are smooth and polished to prevent damage to the instruments as you use this to file the fret ends and keeping them clean and out of the way so I do not cause damage to the instrument or the hands wielding the instrument, much less to the person doing the sawing. This works even more wondrously on instruments that are stored in locations where the humidity is naturally low because the wood tends to draw back a bit and exposes the fret ends which cause problems when sticking out. The handle is narrow and curved just right to allow me to hold and maneuver it as I move it and with the convenient hole at the top of the handle, I can hang it up and out of the way and know at all times where it is and not have to go hunting around for it when in need of it quickly, thus saving time for the performance which in the end is what is the most important part of the reason why this tool is necessary. Let’s continue to make beautiful music thanks to the tools we have provided to us to keep us playing.

Unlike other tools that I've owned, this tool actually cleans and files my frets as they should be. I found that it will actually remove any possible gunk that may get stuck near or around my frets. The other thing I noticed is that it perfectly rounds them off rather than flattening them, which I have had tools actually over file the sharp edges with barely a stroke. With this tool, while it does round them with just a few shavings, it doesn't cause them to flatten or become more damaged. The handle is really comfortable to hold and found that it doesn't really slip out of my hand either. Plus, even with all of the filing I've done with my main guitar and others that I own, this file is still sharp enough to keep going.

This file is not machined very well. The file part is fine, however the sides that brush against the fretboard is rough. I would be nervous about scuffing up the fretboard.

Works well for its price and a great edition to my bench. The safe edges are done well and so far the file edge has held up.Should last, provided you keep the file edge clean with a brass bristled brush.

I ordered this tool for metalworking and sharpening, particularly in tight spaces where a narrow diamond tool is necessary. While I own other diamond paddles and stones, this tool stands out for its combination of narrowness and rigidity, which is highly useful for precise tasks. The rectangular diamond-coated rod has abrasive surfaces on two opposite faces, while the other two faces are not entirely smooth—they show some contamination with sporadic diamond particles. While this doesn’t greatly impact functionality, it does raise questions about quality control. The handle, made from beech wood, is comfortable and feels solid in hand. However, I find the price to be on the higher side for what this tool offers. Similar diamond paddles are available on Amazon, so I’d recommend potential buyers compare prices and features before making a decision.

I got this file for hobby use on my own guitars. I have used it to take the sharp edges off the ends of nickel frets on a low-end guitar, and it did a good job.
