This little tool is designed to simplify sharpening lawnmower blades. It does work, but I’m not convinced that it’s much faster than using a traditional flat file. On a blade that doesn’t have any nicks in it, it may be a better solution than a flat file, but I found it hard to control when it’s crossing over a nick, especially if the nick resulted in a raised area. It tends to jump around when it catches on an uneven surface. It’s also hard to use when you get near the tip of the blade… if you let it get to the actual tip it pulls itself right around the end of the blade. I got a little better at controlling it after I’d completed a few edges, but I still found it occasionally “hopping around” if I let it get slightly out of alignment. I had the blade secured in a workbench vise, so I was mostly able to keep the tool almost perfectly perpendicular to the blade as I ran it back and forth. If I accidentally let it get cocked at an angle, it would start hopping across the surface. I’m not sure how the person in their promotional video was able to sweep the tool back and forth so quickly without it getting out of alignment with the blade… maybe I need to work on my technique! As you can see from my pictures, I was able to get a decent edge on the blades, and it may be a more consistent angle than I’d get using a flat file, but I found I was spending more time using it than I anticipated. Maybe with more practice I will get faster, but right now I’d estimate it’s only saving me 10%-20% of the time it would take to use a flat file, so I don’t think it dramatically increased the speed of the sharpening process for me. But the results are good, so I will probably try it again next time I need to sharpen blades.

I removed my blade just because it made mt nervous to not. LOL I put the balde in the vice and that way I had control and didn't have to worry about the blade moving. I did have a good bit of nicks, but just like anything not smooth, you just had to take some time and go slow. I am very glad I got this, it helped so much and it was really easy to use!

Sharpener works as described but takes about twenty minutes per end of blade. I did not see a dulling of the sharpening surface, expect to spend time sharpening blades.

Before starting each spring I normally have someone come out and sharpen my mower blades to get me ready for the season. I figured I could save a bit of money by doing it myself so I got this. It's easy to setup as all it takes is just putting it in your electric drill and tightening it up. Once I started getting the hang of using it I could definitely see it doing work on the edge of the blade. It was definitely sharpening up the metal. I could tell a difference on the sharpness of the first side I started working on vs the side I hadn't gotten to yet. It didn't take very long before you could really see a difference in the sharpness. The whole tool is solid metal and the actual sharpener seems to be coated with some type of stone, it says diamond but I'm not sure that's the case.I took off 2 stars because if you're going to sell something like this, I would expect at least basic instructions on how to use it. All it says is to set the drill to turn right, that's it. It doesn't tell you anything else or provide any instructions for care or how to properly sharpen your mower blade.

I used this to sharpen 3 blades on my mid mount mower. On a blade that doesn’t have any nicks or chips the sharpener works fantastic. However, I found it hard to control when it’s crossing over a nick/chip as the sharpener tends to jump around when it catches on an uneven surface. It’s also hard to use when you get near the tip of the blade… I am not sure how many times it shot off the end of the blade. . Sometimes I was not 100% sure if i need to add pressure to hold the on the blade tight or adjust my angle. I think it would work better with the blades in a vice. I am going to try that next time. Overall it works well. It got my blades decently sharp in a short period of time and the product looks like it will last a long time compared to other tools. It is a good value, I just wish it was a bit easier to control.

We have a mulching mower and in the past I've had to take the blade pair off the mower to sharpen it with a die grinder. When the blades are installed on the mower, the blades are too close together to get in where I need to sharpen the blade. This sharpener eliminates that issue. It has a diamond 100 grit wheel that is reversible, so if you ever use it that much that you even wear out the diamond grit, you can just flip the wheel and wear the opposite side. The diamond grit should outlast the corundum wheels, which tend to wear and not retain their original shape.I run the drill/driver at full speed. I can easily fit this sharpener between the blade pairs and sharpen all four edges without removing the blades from the mower. When done, I clean up the burrs on the bottom of the blades with a file. This sharpener makes the process much easier, especially on a mulching mower.
