Even though the large size technically fits my Alaskan Malamute, I’m hesitant to using it because I don’t have confidence that she won’t break free of the muzzle. Because of the short length of the muzzle, it only really covers about 1/3 of her snout. Given how strong her jaws are, I feel as though she could still open her mouth quite wide. The straps are long enough to fit around her big boulder of a head, so kudos for that. It seems very well made, and should be durable as long as you don’t have a dog that likes to eat everything that isn’t nailed down.

This muzzle is not good good quality it's essentially velcro bands and a mesh netting kn the sides. I can't use this for my dog. The mesh part isn't very strong or durable. This muzzle is a pass for my dog.

The Velcro on this is not as strong as I had expected, especially on the band that goes under the nose and allows you to adjust the size. I expected the sort of Velcro you get on horse items, like fly masks or boots, which requires a bit of muscle to actually separate. This Velcro is not like that at all – it’s thin and peels apart easily. Now, to be fair, when I closed it and then tossed it around and tugged on it as a dog might do, it did stay closed – but it is thin enough I would not feel comfortable using this on a large/strong dog who was upset. For occasional, precautionary use, e.g. a dog that isn’t too upset but is in a situation where they might get startled, I think this would be okay – for example if you’re brushing out some knots or administering a single injection and want to make sure they don’t nip you. In such a situation the Velcro allows the muzzle to be fit just right, and is soft/flexible enough to not be uncomfortable.

I have never had to use a muzzle for any of my dogs in the past, but I adopted a foster dog that has turned out to be unpredictable around other dogs. I had to quit fostering because of it, and now he is also getting unpredictable around dogs he used to be ok around. I do not plan on muzzling him for extended periods of time, but needed something that could protect him and the other dogs if needed. So far, I am just training him to accept the muzzle gradually by putting it on and giving him a treat, then removing it. He has accepted it so far, although he cannot chew or swallow the treat with the muzzle on. I definitely wouldn't want to use it if it was hot out because I'm not sure he could pant to cool off properly .The fit is good around his head, and it seems soft so it hopefully will not cause chaffing. I think this is an affordable short term solution to use on an as needed basis.
