I don't know a whole lot about hanging doors, but I know that it can be a pain if you don't do it right. My son mentioned a couple of months ago that he was going to be replacing a couple of doors and frames. Now I know that this won't work on the frame, but he had already made templates from the existing frames.And while I may not know about hanging doors, I do know tools and this is a solid piece of kit and according to said son, well worth the price even if you only use it once. I was playing with the grandkids, but I thought it was a good sign that I didn't hear any 'bad words' while he was using it. And he was reluctant to give it back. I assured him that he could borrow it again.

I'm a DIYer who likes and appreciates good tools. For some reason, this had never filtered down to my lowly door hinge jig, which was one I picked up from a big box store probably 30 years ago. This unit is very well made, versatile, and superior in every way. It's a quality tool, and it shows in the results. I am delighted I found this hinge jig.

This past weekend I fitted some new doors in my home and in doing so I found this jig very handy for this. It arrived in a well packaged box and feels very good quality. I managed to set up the jig with ease - using the clamp to position it perfectly onto the doors which secured nicely without moving or sliding out of place. It allowed the router to easily carve out the wood for each hinge and made the experience much more pleasant.Overall, very happy with this product - it’s very sturdy and helped me a lot with fitting hinges onto my new doors. I had no issues with it and therefore do recommend it, especially as £39.99 (upon this review) is reasonable for the quality of product received.

For the installation of replacement doors this is a great tool. For mortising both doors and frames there are better choices. Several good jigs or sets of jigs I've used (or seen but not used) include a separate template for each hinge size. Some of these are all metal, often steel, or a combination of plastic and steel. Others, including at least one very good one that I've used are made mostly of good engineered plastic. This one is a solid aluminum body with steel and foam parts in appropriate areas. It is a solid tool and should last and work well for a long time.When installing door hinges the hardest part is getting all hinges exactly positioned on both the door and the frame. In the case of replacement doors for existing frames, the frame hinge locations are set and must be exactly mirrored on the door. I accomplish this by cutting the upper hinge mortise to exactly fit the hinge, accurately marking the locations of the middle and lower hinge mortises, then cutting them a few hundredths of an inch oversize.This jig makes it easy. my other jigs cut exactly correctly sized mortises. This one is continuously adjustable, and the extreme ends align exactly with the cut. The adjustable center bar has an offset support and cannot be so used. This means that for some doors you may be referencing the top edge of the hinge, and for doors swinging the other way, the bottom edge. Once you've mastered the method, you will never again need to demount the door and rework one or more mortises. Sadly, I see no easy way they could have made this jig usable on the door casing as well.

The most important thing to know from this review, is this hinge jig is absolutely wonderful! It is so well machined and very heavy duty. If you're looking for a hinge setup/routing jig, this is the one to get. I promise that you'll be as impressed as I am...I have two other hinge jigs. One of them was a recent purchase that seemed like a good idea. It's made of plastic and doesn't provide a very high degree of accuracy. I guess it's okay if you don't mind messing up the edge of your door! My other jig is a Craftsman that I've owned for about 20 years. It comes with 12+ various pieces to make it work, and you have to nail it or screw it to the edge of the door. It's awkward and I've managed to misplace some of the key components over the years. It was miserable to use anyway.This one is made of solid billet aluminum. It is finely machined and finished smoothly in anodized red. The parts operate with ease and it includes everything needed to deal any popular hinge configuration on multiple door thicknesses. It is so nice to deploy. So fast and accurate! I've been replacing our interior and exterior doors with solid core hardwood doors. Our jambs are great quality and in good shape so I ordered door slabs to cut hinges and hang myself. This jig sets up fast and clamps solidly into place. Since it's made of billet aluminum and the frame is so thick, accuracy when routing is extremely easy to achieve. I've finished 20 of the 28 doors in our home and every one of them has been perfect. As a side note, instead of using one of my large corded routers, I purchased a mini handheld cordless router for the job. That tool, combined with this jig, has made the project very enjoyable.I wholeheartedly recommend this set. Great seller, outstanding product, and really fast shipping/delivery through Amazon. A really good quality aluminium jig for cutting hinge recesses with a router.Very easy to set up and the depth gauge takes all the messing about out of setting up the router.Fully adjustable for different length hinges.The only thing I haven't been able to work out is how to adjust the width of the hinge, despite scouring the manual.I've used it on a scrap bit of wood to test it and it makes a great job, the only issue being the hinge width, which I've filled with a lolly stick! 😁I'm sure this must be an oversight on my part.A very good lightweight jig and a fair price at £39.99 if you hang a lot of doors.EDIT: After a bit of research it appears that this jig is designed for USA hinges, hence the anomaly with the hinge width. It can easily be adapted with a length of 10mm x 10mm square aluminium tube so that it works for UK hinges.

Just finished a couple doors with a plastic hinge jig that was lose and warped and while it worked I felt uneasy with it. This jig is a solid one piece tool only thing held on with fasteners are the rests for height with the door.All needed tools are included router bit, centering drill bit for screws and a screw bit. The instructions are clear and easy to follow and all packed secure in a cardboard box clearly marked what is inside.Ran a couple trial cuts with an old door and am impressed with the stability I had made the job easy and without stress.
