From the picture on Amazon this looks like a great deal. The jaws of this dowel jig open to 6". That's good. The main problem I found on close inspection was the inability for those same jaws to remain parallel. After finding this non-parallel jaw issue, I gave up and sent it back to Amazon for a refund. I didn't find it was worth the reasonable price.

I'm only referring to the 5/16 part of the tool. The 5/16th drill bit that came with the set was bent, could not be used. The tools 5/16th drill bit guide, that is screwed on to the tool which guides the drill bit to the wood would not accept a 5/16th drill bit, I had to boreit with another 5/15 drill bit.The 5/16 drill bit stop was also of the wrong size, couldn't use it.After fixing these issues I proceeded to use the tool and drilled a bunch of holes in two panels for the dowels, no issues here, all ok. After I applied glued and put the panels together, noticed that they where off by 3/16" .I took apart the entire tool, added a ball bearing and spring under the set screw that guides the large screw with the handle. And also noticed that the drill bit guide lines scribed on the tool itself was off (hence the deviated panels after putting them together). After addressing these issues I was able to successfully use the tool as its intended purpose.I didn't return it because I had the means to repair it and was on a time crunch, otherwise, hb has what looks like the same tool for half the price minus the accessories.Maybe I just got a bad part from stock, idk, but the first thing I should had done was to check the accuracy of the tools scribed lines vs the drillbit tip on the pencil mark I made to drill the hole. So, l live and I learn.

I ordered this product because of its relatively low price. I got what I paid for. When it arrived, I drilled dowel holes into a test piece of wood. The holes were not in the center. Turns out that the black center section was not in the middle between the blue fences. It was way off. I had to calibrate it. There are no instructions. Luckily there is a video on YT that explains the process. I did it and got it centered. Took over an hour. Then, when I attempted to drill another test piece of wood, I discovered that the two fences were not parallel. This makes using this jig very frustrating. Oh well, I'm just a hobbyist, a beginner. I'm not building world-class custom cabinets for Mr. Bezos's Gulfstream. So I kept rather than returning the jig.But if you are serious about your work, buy one that costs a lot more. You will thank me for your decision. How much is your time, frustration, and ruined pieces worth? Put all that into getting a great one instead of this one. I will, if I ever get serious about building furniture and what-not.Two stars rather than one because it has potential to be usable, if somebody would explain to me how to straighten out the one blue fence that is askew.__________Addendum March 28, 2024The vendor issued a full refund.

I was disappointed in this product. It was my first choice due to its large adjustable width capacity. It is well constructed and comes well packaged for shipping. Despite some concerns raised in other reviews, I decided to give it a try. As others have mentioned, the guide bushings do not thread into the jig properly. I tried using a pair of channel locks to force them, but still couldn't completely seat them. If I had a tap the proper size I might have been able to clear the threads, but customers shouldn't have to go to these lengths. A common complaint listed about this jig is the inaccurate centring. This is easily adjusted and should not be a deal breaker. Unfortunately, I will be returning this product.

I ordered the last black one. Looks like good quality but, inserts wouldn't thread into base. I chased the threads on the base with a .5" tap to remove any paint in threads. Couldn't get insert in a .5" die to chase threads on it. Inserts will thread in about 2 threads then get tight. Had to use pliers to get them to thread in all the way, but very tight. Don't think the insert is coming back out! When drilling the center of the base wobbles around! Making the hole bigger than the .25", so the dowel is lose in the hole. Also the allen key is not the proper one for the stops. When i tightened the set screw it striped in the head.To me it looks like some of the parts are imperial & some are metric.
