Bottom line, this replacement part fit and worked perfectly on my 01 Sequoia to resolve problem of passenger door having to be slammed shut. In Toyota engineers wisdom, they coated the latch with some type of plastic possibly to reduce chance of noise or rattle. Anyway, since this plastic is struck with every door closure, it eventually broke off and I scraped the remainder off as best I could. For the latch to proper close, it need that extra layer of plastic to work. I don't know if this changed on later models but the plastic needed to be on the fixed striker ring that would be simpler and cheaper to replace. A DIY temporary fix is to slit a short piece of plastic tubing and cover the area of that ring where it latches. The only issue I had with the replacement is the main push rod (larger one) that opens the door from the outside of the door was over bent meaning it was too short to activate the latch. This required doing the job twice (actually 3 times, to realize the issue) to straighten the rod to match the original "reach" in order to unlatch the door from the outside. Be sure to take close measurement end-to-end of each rod before installing. I am not sure if the issue occurred during manufacture or before reaching me, but a note or calibration/measurement tool would have been a nice addition. However, after all is said and done, it worked well. I don't care to give the original car company more profit on overpriced, poorly engineered parts. I'll just replace them multiple times if needed with third party parts. What would be really nice is if a third party would IMPROVE the design as stated above and pair the latch and striker in a set with an easily replaceable striker.
