The price may scare some away but this set is great. The material is great, the length of the shaft means more can go beyond the tool rest without a catch and the long handle can go into your side for stability. The only thing I don't like is the roughing square has a small radius on it which means it is not totally square. I bought a new blade but they are $30.You can rotate these to get the most out of them as well and they don't need sharpening, you just toss them when you are don't.Buy some negative rake blades if you are going to work with acrylics as it will help prevent chipping.

They perform flawlessly, look beautiful, and feel balanced in your hands. There are cheaper options and in the end, it’s just a square metal tube, wooden handle and carbide tips.

I love the way you just have to replace the tip to sharpen. I have a couple of projects that are tough on the tip. One was a cypress bowl. This piece of wood was an old fence post from Florida. It had been through a fire and was at least 60 years old. Probably more like 80. Very tough wood. Made quick work of it. Then went right through my next project, an oak bowl. Go ahead and get it.

Expensive - if you want both full-size and mini sets, the total can be about the price of a lathe. But they are very well-made and very easy to use for beginners - no need to worry about angles, less chance of catching, etc. Both the square and the round tools are competent for roughing and finishing. They remove material very aggressively when driven hard, but leave a smooth surface with shallow cuts. The inserts have multiple sides and can be simply rotated when they get dull; replacements aren't obscenely expensive either (about $15), especially given that they should last a long time.

These are awesome and a nice addition to the traditional tools we have. One tip that is very important if you are new to turning and have only used traditional tools. These have to be flat on the bar - you do not turn them to the side at all. They only rest on the flat and slide in and out and side - flat to the bar at all times or they will catch and gouge your work.

These lathe tools do a great job, although I think they are little slower to use than regular lathe tools. Also they don't leave as smooth a finish as a regular skew if you do a lot of wood turning and can master the technique of using it. But for someone like me that just does an occasional turning project they are just the ticket.I do think they are mislabeled though. The square edged tool is called the rougher, but I find the round edged tool much better to rough things out with and then do the final smoothing with the square edged tool. The detail tool will indeed allow you to put in some fine details, but you have to be really careful with it in order to avoid leaving gouges in you project.

Very nice tools absolutely strong and easy and very sharp, i wish the aharp heads can stay more longer... but still I recommend it for beginners who prefer not to reshape there big set of chisels.
