  • Some kitchen waste has coarse fibers and cannot be cut into small pieces.

  • It is recommended to collect processed compost from multiple batches for fermentation and decomposition before use. Please refer to the user manual or consult our CS center for detailed operation steps.

This works very well. It does not contain a lot, but it grounds into a nice compost. The only problem is that you can smell whatever is in the composter throughout the house. I always add coffee grounds to the mix, and the house will smell like burnt coffee throughout the duration of the cycle. I wish that it was bigger, but it does work well.

First impressions are good. Overall it was smaller than I expected. While that's good for not taking up too much space in the kitchen, it also means it has a relatively small capacity. My guess is that the latter will mean running it more often, but it may balance out a bit by not using as much energy as the bigger units. It seems to have quite a few restrictions on what you can put in there, no hard bones, a limited amount of dairy, etc...Taking a quick look at bigger capacity units, it seems they also have limitations like that, so I'm assuming that's a bit of an industry standard - but that's just from a cursory look. As far as performance goes, so far it has worked as advertised. Because of the size, I'm running it about every other day. For a family of three or more it might be a little small, unless you're prepared to run it multiple times a day - of course that also depends on how much you cook at home, so YMMV. I wouldn't say operation noise is quiet, but it's not super loud either. It would be nice if the lid button was a little easier to actuate, and also if the lid went up fully on its own. As it is, when you press the button the lid will pop up, but not fully extend. When closing it doesn't easily click back into place without pushing the button, holding the lid closed, and then releasing the button. The lid might just need to be pressed down harder, but it doesn't feel right. Another nitpick is that the power button is in the back lower middle. I guess they assume it will almost always stay on, but if you choose to use the power switch every time, it's not in an ideal spot. Very minor stuff. Overall, it seems to be a good unit. The only unknown is durability. If anything fails prematurely this review will be updated.

I’ve been looking for an electric composter for awhile and this is a wonderful choice! I’m newer to gardening but my compost bin is almost completely full and its just the start of the gardening season – it’s not even summer yet. Enter this Growell Electric Composter! I’ve used it three times so far. It’s quite handy for breaking down compostable materials into what it refers to as “dry garbage” to add to a composting bin or to dispose of in regular trash in a much less smelly and more compact way. It’s quite fun to watch and check on waste being made smaller – I’ve even gone out and pulled weeds to help fill the bin and anything that motivates me to weed is a plus in my book! It’s almost silent and you can run it for 4 or 6 hours for a fast or slow process. My first batch included almost a whole apple that my toddler had eaten around. As I watched the decomposition process and took photos, I thought for sure the apple wouldn’t be broken down – it was so big and everything else had been crumbled and cooked into little pieces after just a couple of hours. I was shocked when it had vanished by morning! (The crumbled dry garbage was a bit gummy after that one, but the other two with no whole apples had all the waste broken down to powder. I’ll still cut whole apples into smaller pieces next time.) I’m so glad to have this tool in my kitchen / gardening toolkit.

This is a massive improvement over my old compost pail that got icky fast, inviting fungus gnats and took extra work to improve the compost process. The gnats alone were enough of a deterrent to me continuing the old compost pail project...The growell unit works quickly to grind and dry my food waste, peels and cut up rinds/cobs/etc, egg shells and seafood shells and bones, etc. It is quiet (about the same level as a desk or computer fan) and has a refillable activated carbon filter (with carbon included) to help with odors. In 4 hours it produced a dried, rich medium that is perfect for adding to a worm farm or garden compost bin. The medium seems like it will help speed the production for soil addendum. It was easy to clean using the clean mode (add water and it turns and heats to help unstick any debris and then empty and wipe with a cloth. The manual was easy to read and get started, and included info about an additional storage mode (I believe this turns on periodically to help with storage of incomplete loads) - I haven't tried this yet.I will say that this unit doesn't have as many features as more expensive competitors, but does work well to quickly preprocess my kitchen waste to add to the compost bin. It feels a little cheap, is made in China and shipped in a brown box, but does the task well.
