Although the name Papier Mâché is French, the method was not adopted in France until the 17th century. The technique was originally used in the Orient as far back as 200 BC.

These are adorable. I bought them to paint and decorate for my Christmas cookie deliveries. The only thing I’d say, though, is to do yourself a favor and put gesso on them first. Then whatever color you paint them will look much better. Lots of fun.
