About this item

  • Brilliant overtones for a full, vibrant, resonant tone
  • Quick response for better articulation
  • Excellent pitch stability and intonation in all ranges, even for clarinet
  • The same "woody" tone as cane but with better sound projection

Fibracell reeds have been available in retail outlets worldwide for over 14 years. Top players in the business depend on Fibracell reeds for the best sound and feel around. Fibracell material is a sophisticated composite of aerospace materials designed to precisely duplicate the way Nature constructs reed cane. Very stiff but sound absorbing Aramid fibers are suspended in a light weight resin formulation.

I was surprised how this reed looked, felt and played like a cane reed. I bought this reed for specifically outdoor preformaces and it plays like a dream indoor and out. This reed is a lot cheaper compared to Légère which was a win for me as they can be quite expensive and warp fairly quickly. I definitely recommend this reed to any bass clarinetist and will definitely be purchasing more in the future.

I like using cane reeds but needed more durability and on-demand use needs that a synthetic reed can offer. For example, for pit work I need a reed that will speak on demand after sitting idle. This Fibracell reed does that job. I have tried other synthetic reeds with mixed success. A big challenge is finding the right strength for my mouthpiece setup (blind guessing with the guide of the manufacturer's specs-that don't always mesh with my reed experience.) Other reeds have been tough finding the right hardness and with higher pricepoint for synthetic (over cane) it can be a dealbreaker if you get it wrong and now have a bunch of useless reeds that cost $$$$. The Fibracell has been durable and sized more correctly to cane equivalents IMO, AND the price was better than a lot of the competition too. For me, that has been a win-win.This reed also has some 'tooth' to it like a cane reed... not just a slippery surface that is a problem with some of the other reeds that I have tried. And this reed has been durable for me with it being in use now for over a year playing with my clarinet choir.

Played fine at first but broken down after 1 month, another brand lasted much longer.

Seems to play flat in the higher registers. Seems soft and comparable to 2.5 reed. This would be a great reed for the very beginner.

I'm a long-time B-flat player (30 years), but new to bass clarinet, so naturally I was shocked at the price of "regular" reeds. I got this one and another synthetic reed, hoping the investment would be worth it and it totally was! The other one I got was a plastic reed and I'm not a fan. The fibracell is amazing! It really does sound like real wood and makes it easy for me to reach both high and low notes. I've gotten so many compliments on my sound from other players. I play on it about 1-2 times per week and have had it for 2 months now. It is still going strong. FYI, I use a Vandoren 2.5, so I got a Fibracell 2.5 based on reviews here and it is perfect! (If you're new to bass clarinet, you will need a softer reed than for B-flat. I play on a Vandoren 3.5 V-12 on my B-flat, but anything harder than a 2.5 on my bass is too hard for me)

The case was cracked, which is quite unfortunate for a reed that should last longer than typical bamboo reeds and thus needs protection in the case that much more. Otherwise, it's great. I was given one of these reeds in college when it was still a prototype and it's been fantastic ever since. Took years before I damaged it enough to need a new one. While it maintains the difference synthetic reeds have over wood of being brighter and more harsh, this reed is by far the closest to the mellow warmth of wood of any synthetic. Fantastic for marching or jazz, and great because it plays without being wet first.

This reed is outstanding! Years ago, it was called fibercane, and I enjoyed it very much. It is durable, and gives a very good tone quality. It's like playing with real cane. I would recommend this reed to anyone who plays a reed instrument. I also have a fibercane bassoon reed that I bought about 30 years ago, and it is still in good shape. It has not lost any quality. The fibracell synthetic bass clarinet reed exceeded my expectations.

Like, like, like this reed! Bought as an experiment to see if it would play okay. Surprise! This was and is the best reed ever! It has lasted longer than any bamboo reed. It plays more consistently. And for me, there is no question - this reed is easier to play with less troubles hitting the low notes and high notes than ever. I suppose everyone's results will vary. But for me, this was a pleasingly excellent purchase.
