In normal situations, this SSD enclosure works quite well. However, during continuous use—especially when copying large files—it heats up very quickly. This excessive heat caused data corruption and even led to partition loss in my case. Overall, it was a very bad experience, and I cannot recommend this product for heavy or prolonged use.

If you have a spare NVME kicking around after a PC upgrade then this enclosure is a good way to use it. This one is a reasonable price as i have used ones costing two to three times as much. It of course it compatible with most platforms. IOS and windows along with linux though of course it will need formatting. It’s all metal construction is really nice and has a fan to keep your device cool. Installation is simple, the lid flips up and you align the module plug it in and close the lid. The rated speed is 40Gbps but that is dependent on your device and its capability. This is a really good enclosure, not cheap but quality.

This is the best-designed NVME SSD enclosure I've seen. It checks all the boxes for me - a toolless enclosure that presses the thermal pad straight down onto the SSD instead of sliding over it, a solid metal enclosure with plenty of mass to absorb heat plenty of external fins, a built-in fan to aid in heat dissipation, USB 4 speeds, and a detachable USB cable instead of a permanently attached one (useful if the cable is ever damaged and needs to be replaced).

I was excited to try this enclosure out as soon as it came in. I didn't have an extra m.2 to throw in it, but that was better because it allowed me to pull one out of my other TB4 enclosure and compare results.First let's just get into things I like about the enclosure. It's toolless. This is AMAZING. There is a small lip on the bottom you just grip with your finger and pull down to open the enclosure. Now I did say toolless, but there is a caveat to that. It's only toolless if you use a 2280 sized m.2. The one I used is 2280 so all I had to do was slide it into the m.2 slot and then push down. Once you push down there is a small lever that will catch the opposite end and hold it in place. If you use a smaller sized m.2 then you will have to insert a standoff and screw it down. The next thing I like is the large pre-applied thermal pad. It is pre-applied to the inside of the lid so when you install your m.2 the thermal pad makes contact as soon as you close the lid down.As for speed results. I used crystaldiskmark and got basically identical results in every category.Sequential Reads were at 3500MB/s and 2500MB/s with Randoms at 490MB/s and 77MB/s.Sequential Writes were at 512MB/s and 1060MB/s with Randoms at 450 MB/s and 202MB/sThe one category that I got different results from my other drive is in Sequential Writes Q8T1 test. This enclosure gave me 512MB/s but my other enclosure gave me 955MB/s. I'm not sure what is causing this and will have to run more tests to see if this was a one time thing or persists.I moved a few files back and forth and so far I haven't noticed a big difference in performance. I can move large files (60GB+) in both drives within seconds of the same time as each other. Benchmarks are only synthetic and real world performance has been identical between my two enclosures. The one thing I dislike and knocked off a star for is the active cooling fan. I like that this has one, the more cooling the better; however, this one is really loud. It doesn't read the temperature of the drive and ramp up, it just goes full blast as soon as you plug it in. On top of that, despite the active cooling fan this enclosure gets warm. It does not get hot to be clear, but it got warmer than I was expecting for having an active cooling fan.All in all, this is a really solid enclosure. It offers great speeds and convenient features like toolless operation. It's not perfect, but you could definitely do worse.

Although they claim this will transfer data at 40Gbps, which is the quoted speed for Thunderbolt 4, they realize this is the theoretical speed under ideal conditions. Thunderbolt 4 ports, as of this writing, are not readily available except on MACS and a select group of high-end Intel-based motherboards. We found two motherboards with that port from ASUS and MSI. Connecting a Thunderbolt 4 enclosure with this cable to one of the computers built netted a speed of about 38Gbps read and a little less in writing. The cable is the ideal length for transmitting files quickly. It seems that as the speeds increase, besides the quality of the cable, its length also becomes an issue. To prove that, we added a six-foot extension to this cable and tested the speed again. Now we have 27Gps reading and 22Gps writing. This downgraded speed can be directly attributed to the extension quality and just adding the extra distance between the computer and the NVMe enclosure. The moral of this long review is to plan your system well to get the best speed.

I have previously purchased Fideco products and am glad they are still around. For 1/2 of what others were charging I snagged this little unit for my brand new Gen 5 NVME to transfer files. The enclosure is solid, nice and heavy weight with a semi-easy tool-less opening. The SSD install is just a snap-in, including the little rubber feet for smaller drives. The built-in fan is noiseless and keeps the enclosure nice and frosty during operation. Of course, it will get warm, but that is completely normal. I managed to copy 2TB in 30 mins and using a USB-C hub. That is not bad at all. The other reviewers mention cable length; I agree it could be a little longer. For the price paid, this is worth it 100%.I'm glad Fideco is still around, gonna have to check out their other products. Rating 5/5.

Delivers on speeds.. about 3065mb on read, 2950 on write---provided you use usb 4/tb4 ports.. anything less can fall about to usb 3.2 speeds about 1000mb/sec (usb 3.2 2x2 ports are not common giving you that interim speed boost to 2000mb/sec on a desktop you might as well buy a usb4 pcie card, not 3.2 2x2 if you need the speed). It also stays very cool with the active cooling fan. Just one tip for the long term viability of your ssd drive .. try not to treat it like a usb flash drive.. try to stay under 500 power on/off cycles per year.

I bought this because of the innovative thermal pad and tool-free design. You basically never need to touch the thermal pad. The fan's noise is pretty much unnoticeable if there's something else in the room making noise.Note: You absolutely need a thunderbolt compatible usb-c cable to take advantage of the fastest read and write speeds.

This is a good quality NVMe enclosure. It functions as expected with connectivity up to full speed of my NVMe drive. The design allows ease installation, no screws needed. The fan keep it cool; however, the fan speed is not controllable making the annoying fan noise.
