This seller is selling automatic door stoppers with no refunds. You can't even try to fix it yourself or it breaks the warranty, which they prefer because it means you can waste $60 buying their defective products. The stopper didn't drop down no matter how it was installed. Literally just metal paper weight. DO NOT BUY

I became aware of this type of product in about 2001 when I worked in an office with a noisy air conditioning unit (part of our data center cooling system) in an adjacent room. My company hired an acoustic contractor who, among other things, installed a device like this at the bottom of the door. I'd been looking for a similar item for several years but I apparently didn't know what to search for. After moving into a new condo with a door sill that was level with the floor (making a standard door sweep scratch up the floor whenever the door was opened) necessitated me finding this. My door is metal with a piece of metal at the bottom, so I couldn't use the internal version.I was originally hoping to purchase a heavy duty model, but they were only offered in 36" lengths (at least the ones I saw on Amazon) and I had a 32" door. However, after receiving it, I realized that the item needs to be cut prior to installation anyway, and I probably could have gone with the 36" heavier version. I ended up cutting it with an angle grinder and metal cutting blade, although a hacksaw would have done the job just fine, since it's aluminum and rubber. The door seal installs on the side of the door opposite the hinges, which means you need to cut it 1/8" shorter than the distance between the door stops. I did this but had to do some minor trimming after the fact to make the door close without scraping. This could be done with a file if you don't have an angle grinder, although if you're more careful with your markings, you may be able to avoid the trimming all together. When installing this, it will be helpful to have some clamps to hold it to the door while drilling holes. Put some masking tape on the unit to prevent scratching it, unless your clamps have rubber surfaces. I didn't have any clamps with me and used some painters tape instead, which didn't work as well. I recommend a 7/64" drill bit; this wasn't specified in the instructions, which didn't come with the product - I had to download. Once the holes are drilled and the screws screwed in, the only thing left is to adjust the level on the lever that causes the bottom to lower. If your door stops are soft wood, you might want to install a small metal plate opposite the lever to prevent it making a hole in the wood; the spring is pretty strong. My criticism with this is how the stop lowers; it's a sliding piece of aluminum within an aluminum outer case. There is no plastic between them, which means every time you open or close your door, you can hear the scrape of metal against metal. Over time it will undoubtedly begin showing scratches (not really a big deal for me since I only have about a 1/4" drop and it's not really visible from eye level) but it also makes me wonder how long it will last before the scratches cause it to start binding up.At any rate I gave this four stars; there aren't many different manufacturers of this type of device, but you might want to consider if it's worthwhile to spend a little more for a heavy duty model (although I don't know for sure if the heavy duty version uses a better mechanism that doesn't have metal scraping against metal).

My problem was two-fold: Mice entering unimpeded; Inside door flooring slightly inclined--causing a stationary door bottom to jam the door from opening more than halfway. The automatic rising feature of the Auto Door Bottom proved the perfect solution. It provides a great seal, when the door is closed. When the door is opened, it quickly rises out of the way to provide the clearance I need to open all the way.Perfect solution. Perfect product.

I guess I’m not going to say that I couldn’t be happier, but so far it’s working. I had to create a metal stop for the plunger to press onto, so that took a while. And I had to reverse the direction of the whole thing because my door went the other way. So it took some modification and I had to drill new holes. And the mounting height was not super clear. You have to depress the plunger to see the door bottom travel. Some more instruction would be nice.Getting the plunger just right takes some trial and error. Too much plunger and the door won’t open. Too little and the door bottom won’t fully depress. Right now it works, but if you close it softly then the bottom won’t go fully down. You have to pull the door a little bit and the bottom comes fully down.I’d buy it again, but having a more certain action for the door bottom to lock into place would be nice.

It’s one of those things you order, use and then forget. Installation isn’t difficult for someone handy, just make sure to measure twice and only drill once! It has been effective since day one.
