This is the best pooper scooper! OK - I'm going to get graphic here and talk freely about dog poo. The thing I love about this scooper is that you can easily pick up dog poo and toss it. I have a woods behind my house that is frequented by deer and other forest critters who "do their business" there - so my neighbors and I pick up our dogs' poo and just toss it into the woods. This is the only scooper I've found that enables this action easily. And - if you have to toss poo into a trash bag or trash can - it's just as good. I've used "dual rake" scoopers, and the ones that operate one handed - none are as easy and effective as this. I think this is the longest review I've ever written, and it's about poo. Who would have guessed. Great scoop, easily worth the money! Ours has been outside for a long time - sturdy, and withstands the weather!

This is the best dog poop picker upper out there. If you can be heartbroken when a pooper scooper dies, that was pretty much where I was at when my old one finally fell apart after five or so years of picking up after my two large dogs. That pooper scooper must have picked up tons o'poo, Not only is it a great poop picker upper, it's great to pick up leaves and put them in those tall brown leaf bags. If you have used those bags, you know it's close to impossible to get the darn things to stand up on their own... if you put your handy pooper scooper inside of the empty bag and use it to open the bag fully, it's close to amazing... then you use the pooper scooper to pick up the piles of leaves that you have raked up almost effortlessly. This really is an amazing little tool. I like it so much that I got one for my son as a surprise. Honestly, he wasn't all that thrilled because when I told him he was getting a surprise from me, I'm sure he thought it might be something more fun... but as they say, poop happens and his dogs are happening all over his yard. I'm sure if he ever uses it, he will be as delighted as I am... He says letting the poop sit is more "green"... whatever. This poop picker upper is far superior to those one handed pieces of poo... in comparison, they are like toy pooper scoopers. I wasn't paid to write this but if the company wants to lay a few on me for my endorsement, send 'em on and I'll take them to the local humane society.

This is the one I keep coming back for. There are a few times that I have decided to try to find a "better" pooper scooper ( clasp, rake, pinch, shovel, baggies ) but I usually find out that this new fancy tool I just bought to pick up poop doesn't work any better, but it cost me 3x as much. There is a flaw in the design of this pooper scooper that I have run into every single time and it causes a stability issue between the two sides. After a month or two the nut & bolt that holds the two pieces together starts loosening up as the wood wears away. This little problem is the beginning of the end. 1. The little wobble between to sides of the rake begins2. The sides don't line up as easily which speeds up the wear and tear process because now you have to slide them back together every time you use it.3. The death rattle begins. This is when the wobble is not restricted to the side to side, but now it's also the up and down motion as well.4. ...the death of the pooper scooper. It usually occurs when the wood holding the two sides together snaps or the nut and bolt fall out.All things wear down eventually, some faster than others. This is a $13 pooper scooper that I can handle replacing when needed. My current one lasted 11 months, but the last one only made it to 4 months. The only reason I have tried other brands is due to the frustration associated with this one falling apart the same way every time. The wood breaks down with just the friction of regular usage. If you look closely at the picture there is not a great deal of wood surrounding the area attaching the two sides. As that area is worn down it's very easy to see why things start falling apart.I would personally suggest the company comes up with a way to reinforce that area. While they are at it if they could add something extra to the top area where a person holds it because once the paint starts chipping off it creates what I would like to call the "sliver danger area".Setting that issue aside I keep coming back to this pooper scooper because it's a good price, the rake side is sturdy, and it has the other side without the rake to make sure that even the smallest poop stays inside where they belongs. The rake on this pooper scooper is perfect because the prongs are not that long. I don't need to dig 4 inches into my grass to pick up the poop. I have had another pooper scooper with the rake area on both sides. It was sturdy and I loved it but the prongs always got stuck in the grass/root area and they started bending and lifting out of place as they pulled up the roots of my grass. My pooper scooper sits on my patio in the corner behind the garden hose reel (under the roof). It's not sitting in the middle of the yard baking in the sun and soaking up the rain but it does occasionally get both. I mention this because it would most likely last longer if I stored it in the garage or a shed. I just don't want to carry the stinky thing too far.

I bought one of these at a national chain for about $30 almost 3 years back. It lasted fine and probably would have lasted a hundred years if I hadn't run over it with the car TWICE. That's right, two times. The first time it mashed flat but I was able to bend everything back into shape. The second time though the handle splintered near a rivet and when trying to bend the forks back the thing snapped. I'd say that's one tough pooper scooper! As far as how it works, it works GREAT! It took some getting used to when I first got it as it appeared to operate contrary to how you wanted it to. In other words when I'd go to squeeze it shut it opened, and vice-versa. But once I got used to it, it worked like a charm! With some practice, I now can even pick up poops with one hand if I need to (although that can be tricky at first also). The forks are wide enough to be functional, but not too wide where they won't easily go through long grass. They are also very strong metal with a rib in the middle of each fork to help reinforce the design. I looked at a lot of these in stores before buying my first one and this was by far the strongest and best designed model. All wood and metal. NO PLASTIC HERE! Little tricky to pick up the poops that roll into the pavement, but for getting them out of the grass this works great.
