The Freud Difference
Freud manufactures some of the most innovative, technologically advanced woodworking tools and accessories in the world. To ensure that the highest quality products meet the toughest design standards, Freud owns and operates six manufacturing facilities in Western Europe. Freud is one of the few manufacturers of woodworking tools that produces its own MicroGrain carbide with titanium, called TiCo -- a combination of titanium and cobalt. Freud develops different types of carbide for each application to maximize the cutting life and performance of the tool; and Freud also operates one of the most modern product development research centers in Europe. By overseeing the entire manufacturing process from start to finish, Freud guarantees some of the highest quality, most advanced products in the industry.

About Freud's Industrial Bits
Serious woodworkers choose serious accessories. They choose Freud. The Freud name equals quality, precision and craftsmanship. Freud router bits feature TiCo Hi-Density Carbide for maximum cutting life and are individually balanced; providing a cut above the rest. When you’re looking for a serious router bit, look for Freud red.

About this Lock Miter Bit
The Freud 2-3/4-inch lock miter bit produces locking miter joints in a snap. Ideal for humidors and jewelry boxes, this bit allows you to run one board vertically and run the piece to be joined horizontally. This precision-ground carbide bit is made with added titanium, making it virtually impervious to chemical attack. The bit is computer balanced to ensure vibration-free operation at speeds that are a safe margin above the typical 22,000 rpm of most routers. For use on CNC and other automatic routers as well as hand-held and table-mounted portable routers, this bit cuts all composition materials, plywood, hardwood, and soft wood. The overall diameter of the bit is 2-3/4-inch; the shank diameter is 1/2-inch.

Applications
Use this lock miter bit to produce locking miter joints on smaller projects, such as jewelry boxes, craft boxes, or humidors. It cuts all composition materials, plywoods, hardwoods, and softwoods; and it's designed for use on CNC and other automatic routers, as well as table-mounted portable routers.

Key Tech Specs:

  • 2-3/4-inch bit diameter
  • 1/2-inch shank diameter
  • 45-degree angle
  • 1-5/32-inch carbide height

    Warranty
This bit comes covered by Freud's limited lifetime warranty.

I have lots of Freud bits, and have always been happy with them. Bought this one because I wanted a better solution for making lots of miter box joints. Normally I just cut a 45d angle, lay them out with painters tape, glue them up and close up the joints - this looked like a great way to make this a more structured joint that didn't depend on painters tape for alignment. This is a VERY BIG bit. Lots of mass. Even with my router table properly configured, I struggled to get boards through it. With the board laying flat on the router table I was able to get it through ok, but when you have to set the opposite board up against the back fence - well, let's just say it feels super unsafe. A lot of that bit has to be exposed and even with decent fence alignment, feather boards and a ton of adjustments, it never felt safe to use.The lower score on this review isn't a reflection on the build quality of the bit - it's very good. It's just a reflection on how dangerous this bit is in practice.

This is a very nice bit. After struggling with less expensive ones this is a joy to use. I find setup to be much easier - don't know why but the acceptable range of stock thickness for this one is greater than others I have used. I suspect that is why setup is easier?

This thing worked perfectly...once I figured out how to dial it in exactly. Do lots of test pieces and make incremental adjustments until it's perfectly dialed in.

Takes some trial and error to get properly set up, but not all that difficult. Once dialed in, makes a wonderful non-slip joint for gluing. Aligns joint to form perfect 90 degree angled surfaces. Great product!

Perfect corners. I've used it on walnut 2 separate times and had great results. One was a 3 sides walnut faux beam and the other was a custom walnut range hood. The miter joints are strong and look fantastic.

I Like the fact it can cut 1" stock, Freud always great quality, but a bit pricey at almost 120.00Opted for this over offshore due to working with fir, which is difficult anyways, plus lockmiter is a bit of an issue so wanted a cutter with proven quality and geometry.

My husband bout this for a project he is working on. Actually, this his the second one. The first one arrived loose, bouncing around inside its case. So he sent it back for a replacement. A tool like this you do not want to take a chance on seeing how big it is and how fast it turns! This is a big router bit, heavy, well made. It is also very sharp. The instructions are mostly useless if you have never used this bit before. The setup block that you can get with it gets you close but the rest is trail and error until you get it dialed in. Once there, does what it was made to do well.

Je l'ai acheté pour mon père et il est très satisfait. Même marque, même produit, mais beaucoup, beaucoup moins chère sur Amazon.

I purchased this particular corner lock bit because of the previous reviews and the Freud reputation. It is also big enough that it covers all of the wood thicknesses I'd be using for projects with just the one bit. The bit is well-balanced and cuts very smoothly. The nature of this profile is that set up takes a bit of doing to get the two cuts to align perfectly. I made a new sacrificial guide fence so that I could embed the bit into the fence face. I am well pleased with this purchase and highly recommend this lock miter bit by Freud.
