GE's mechanical timer is simple, nicely made, and small. The timer is made completely of plastic, but everything feels solid and well made. The timer is very compact and not much larger than a box of playing cards. It's very simple to use. There is a polarized plug on the right hand side of the timer and on the front of the timer is a rotating "clock" that has pins around the outside edge. To active the plugged in item you simply slide the pins in or out. You can set the timer to turn to activate in 15 minute increments, or you can have it run all the time by flipping the switch on top. The pins are attached to the timer, so they cannot be lost. To set the current time you simply rotate the outer ring until the correct time lines up with the arrow on the front.I've been using it for a couple of months now to turn a small lamp on and off in our guest bedroom. I have it set to turn on and off at a few times from 8 PM to 12 AM. It works perfectly, makes little noise, and runs accurately. All in all... a great little timer.

A relatively simple timer that works and does it's job.Programing it is as simple as turning the dial to roughly the correct time and then popping out the little pastic tabs of the times you want your device to turn on. Plenty of freedom to control the times the timer functions. Without reading any instructions I had it opened, set, plugged in and running in less than five minutes.Positives:- The outlet it has to plug your device into is on the side. I like this design so items like lamps can be plugged in with a couch right up on the electric socket. With some of the front plug designs you're forced to move the couch off the wall several inches to accomodate the plug.- For a mechanical timer it is extremely quiet. To hear it you have to have your ear right next to it in a silent room and know you're listening for it. It is directly next to my couch and I can not hear it running when laying on the couch when the room is silent.- It has a bypass button to go from timer mode to normal outlet mode. I tested it and it worked on mine. While I don't use this feature it may be nice for some users out there. It lost a star for the following reasons, nothing huge, but things to be aware of:- Be careful plugging it in after it's set... it's not hard to push in the little tabs you pull out to set the times your device will be on.- The plug on the side only supports two prong electrical plugs. Anything with the third ground prong will not work in it. All the lamps I check in my house are only two prongs, so this isn't an issue for me, but something others should be aware of.- While the timer isn't huge, on an electrical socket it can take up a little room. If you have the option make sure you plug it in the bottom outlet otherwise it will block it.- It only has one plug for a device. I would have liked more, but was fully aware of this from the description.

Easy. That's why I got this. It works like it should. Don't have to worry about losing those little pins other ones use, and the digital ones are a pain in the butt to set (and I'm 21. I'm used to everything being digital). Some things should just be kept as they are, this is one of those things.I use it to control the light on my fishes tank, and it's easy to adjust the time (it doesn't need to be on as much since it's getting lighter outside, making his tank lighter). Really perfect little gadget.

This product is simple, works well and seems pretty rugged. I have it set up to give light to some plants that I am growing inside. It has been working problem free for just over a month now with daily on and off cycles. After setting the correct time on the face you simply select the desired time for the light (or whatever you are plugging into the timer) to turn on. It isn't super accurate at setting the time, although it is close. For example I have mine set to turn off at 10:30 but it actually turns off around 10:23. I'm sure if you played with it a little you could get it to turn on/off within a minute or two of when you wanted. If your needing something to turn on at a very precise time (within a few seconds of actual time of day) this might not work very well as you just don't have the means to set it that precise. I would imagine these would work great for christmas lights although I probably wouldn't use it outside. I would buy this again if I needed an outlet timer.

It works like it should. I had ordered a two pack of a smaller but otherwise identical type in Dec. 2012 and just opened it for the first time and one does not work (loses two hours a day, the other works as it should. So, I am not sure about longevity but this has worked well/perfectly for 2 days. Seems like most mechanical timers work for a few years and quit. I will update as the days go by. I recommend the newer remote control type, but the remotes do require batteries and one cannot just set snd forget, they must be turned on when needed, but maybe that is more 'green' anyway, except for the battery. The light sensitive timers work nicely and you can set how long they are going to be on. Just be sure the sensor is not placed near a light that it turns on or it will go on and off. Dusk to Dawn is good for safety. It is very easy to set-up and test. So far I recommend this, would buy again, and I hope this helps someone.
