Our local cheese shop uses one of these so when this popped up, I nabbed it. It works great for hard cheese and creates nice, thin slices. Perfect addition to the huge charcuterie board I put together for our last party. It's comes apart for easier storage, which is nice, although I wish it came with a cloth bag to store the sharp metal pieces. The included plastic wraps to keep the leftover cheese fresh were a welcome addition. It's priced in-line or a bit less than others I've seen. It definitely a luxury items, as it doesn't have a ton of versatility, but it would make an awesome gift for a foodie or baker. I saw another reviewer used it for shaving cold butter to use in baking, which is genius. (Cole butter = flaky pastry).

Every year for my mother’s birthday, we would buy an incredibly delicious chocolate-hazelnut layer cake from our local bakery. Rich and nutty, its frosting was topped with large, beautiful, extremely thin curls of dark chocolate. I enjoy baking, and actually ordered this item to try to duplicate those delicate curls. I confess I’ve yet to use this for that purpose, however, I did use it to shave some exceptional manchego cheese. Manchego is firm yet can crumble, so I wasn’t sure how it would do, but I chilled it first, and managed to make some beautiful curls. Next up will be chocolate! This is definitely a specialty item, but for those of us who enjoy entertaining or baking, it earns it’s keep in the kitchen. Plus, it’s attractive, and could be pressed into service for appetizers or charcuterie presentations.

This product is very well made. It is sturdy and durable while also being very aesthetic. It is very easy to use and works very well. It is a fun addition to my kitchen items and makes charcuterie boards easier and more attractive. It works well for cheese or chocolate wheels. It is a great value and I am very happy that I got this product.

I got this to use to elevate my charcuterie boards but have found several uses. I tried it on a soft cheese and it was ok, but I benefitted from placing the cheese in the freezer to firm it up, and it worked great. I had no issues with hard cheeses and it works great for those small to medium-sized wheels. One other use when I am making croissants, is that I use it to shave the butter into thin pieces. I then can freeze the butter slices on a sheet and add them when my dough is ready. It's so much easier than slicing it into small cubes, and I get a better flavor. This would be a great gift for someone who likes to entertain. I haven't tried it with chocolate yet, but it's only a matter of time.

It comes with care and use instructions as well as a large pair of tongs and a corer. I like it and I think it’s worth the price.

This girolle (“cheese curler”) seems to be of as good of quality as any others I’ve seen for sale. The center hub screws in easily and feels firmly attached. The feet feel solidly attached, too, and they really grip the counter. The wooden handle on the blade is comfortable.I only just recently discovered the joy of tête de moine (monk’s head) cheese rosettes at a local warehouse store. But they’re quite expensive, and they have the best texture when they’re fresh (they tend to dry out quickly), so you can’t buy a tray of them and then eat them sparingly to make them last. (Rookie mistake. But my dog was happy to finish them for me.) So I started investigating curling my own cheese. This girolle is a pretty typical price (currently $43). Some brands come with plastic or glass domes for covering your uncurled wheel of cheese. This one does not offer that. Instead, it comes with twelve “shower cap” plastic covers. If you often have a half-used wheel of cheese on your girolle, you might enjoy having a real cover. But if this is going to be sort of a novelty, holiday, or special-occasion device, you will be happy that it stores in a much smaller space than girolles with covers, and the shower caps will work just as well (possibly better). Curiously, even though a cover is not included, the wooden base has a groove for one. If you have a deep bowl that is about 7.25 inches across, that would work. This model has a couple of value-added, useful items: A cheese corer (for making a hole in the center of your wheel) and long tweezers for picking up and pinching your curls. This would make a great gift for any cheese-loving and/or pretentious friends or other people you have to give something to.I have not yet had the chance to actually curl cheese on this. Tête de moine is not easy to find locally, and it’s prohibitively expensive to have shipped. Honestly, I’m not sure I can save any money by curling my own cheese. But I was hoping this would work with other types of cheaper, more readily available cheese. A quick search online was not enlightening. I only came across a couple of alternate cheeses, both equally rare and expensive. Well, one site suggested gouda. I’m dubious. Maybe a firm, aged gouda. They say firm to semi-firm. Not too moist or it’ll just smear. Not too dry or it’ll just crumble. They say to lightly oil the blade before use, and cold cheese curls best. I’ll update if/when I find a cheese to curl. But if you’re undaunted and in the market for a girolle, I think this one is worth considering.

I was at the grocery store and found a big chunk of chocolate which I had been looking for. I had been wanting to make a cake covered with chocolate shavings and I finally got to try it. A bit hard at first but after a few whirls around the chocolate to get it even it saved it beautifully. I keep forgetting to take pictures. I will have to make another one and post a picture. This worked great for chocolate shavings for a cake or whatever you want. I still have to try with cheese but I'm very happy to use for chocolate. Much easier than a peeler.
