I had bought these some years ago, they were gold, and had the "byzantine design" Unfortunately, they did change the design for the worse, but the quality is so much better, tight with minimal backlash, the buttons are very nice. I think in terms of performance, they equal the Rubners (which are now 124$ at the cheapest, so I do think they are well worth the price.

Tuning machines are pretty good but not the same as the picture also missing two bushings from the package

I received a different set twice. They were not nearly as cool as what's pictured. I'm disappointed to say the least. This would have been perfect for the mandolin that i'm making. I'll spend the extra money and get Rubner's now. Amazon has failed again.

I was disappointed.. Look nice but lots of gear slop on some of the tuners, where others have very little.

These are smooth tuners, the finish is great and the knobs look like real ivory. I have a nearly finished mandolin to install them on so I am very anxious to see exactly how they perform.
