This is a really nice little sump pump that is made of sturdy and rugged plastic. There isn't any visible metal that can rust, or produce an electric fault. Because of the lack of metal, then this should last longer and it should not fail because of corrosion issues. When its running, it quite and it is able to produce a pretty good solid stream of water. When it's running, its very quite, with the sound of the water making more noise than the motor. One thing I really like is that this includes two fittings, which can accommodate a wide range of connections. Some may need to trim off the end of the fitting to expose a wider connector, but it's very creative how they have it setup to make it easier to accommodate your needs. One thing I did notice, is that the threaded connector that these fittings screws on to, has a rubber gasket at the bottom. Ideally the connector should come in to contact with that gasket to form a water tight seal, but I noticed that it does compress the gasket all the way and it leaks. Therefore, it appears like this would be a great usage of plumber's PTFE tape to get that water tight seal. This sump pump isn't that large and it fits comfortably in a 5 gallon bucket with room to spare around it, and above it. It's also very light weight since it's made out of plastic, when compared to comparable cast iron sump pumps. Due to the size, and because it's durable plastic, this would be an ideal pump to be used in other applications other than just within a sump. You can install this and forget it, but because of the light weight, it be a handy tool for carry around to different work sites too.I really like the fact that this is plastic, to help reduce the risk of shocks. I realize all submersible sump pumps are designed to be placed in water, but being non-conductive gives me a little more peace of mind. I also really like the power switch on this sump pump that switches between automatic and manual; no direct contact to an electrical switch. There isn't a power off switch on this pump, since it can be unplugged if you don't want it to run, which is perfectly fine since there is no doubt about if it's on or not. It's obvious that if its plugged in, then it on even if its not running. One thing I noticed, and I'm not sure if it's just the one I have, is that when its in manual mode (could also happen in automatic mode) it leaks a little water under the gray pipe that leads to the threaded fittings connector. It leaks around the green bell housing, but it does so if it's not able to fully engage with a producing a firm stream of water. I suspect this may be a pressure relief valve that does not seal until it's able to produce full pressure. Overall, this is not an issue since it drains back in to the water its trying to pump.Overall this is a great little sump pump that would be ideal for a primary sump pump, or to keep as a spare if your primary one fails. It comes with a plastic rope that can be used to tie to the pump's housing under the handle (there is a loop for ropes) so you can lift this pump out of the water without putting strain on the electric cord, which is really considerate too. This sump pump could also help with other water pumping tasks such as cleaning up after floods, emptying pools or tubs, fountains, etc. Being light weight and durable plastic, makes it easier to use with other applications.

As a "jack of all trades" pump, this is pretty nice. I like that the float is contained within the pump housing so that it's protected. On previous pumps I'd buy a clamp-on float system. So this pump accomplishes both with only one electrical connection.Cost, compared to the Wayne and Simer offerings I use for sump pumps, is excellent. And what surprised me is that it is significantly more capable and less expensive than another favorite of mine, the Wayne Waterbug.Given the effort one expects from water pumps (volume of water, height to push up water, time of operation, etc.) I'm still not sure about longevity. So that's the reason I'm going with "4 stars" at the moment. If it lasts I think one could rate this pump at "5 stars." But I don't know that yet, so...4 stars.

I have two short term rental properties and each one has a hot tub which needs draining every few month. Sometimes in winter (ugh). This powerful pump get's the water out fast. I used to drain the tubs with a siphon and a garden hose which works, but it takes several hours to drain 400 gallons by gravity. This will get it done in way less time- quickly and efficiently. My houses are in the Catskill mountains of upstate New York, and we get a lot of rain. So much so that my basement/ crawl spaces can't handle all the water sometimes and they flood. While this machine is resting and waiting for the times it has to drain the spas, it will be in my crawl space doing double duty to keep it dry. You really don't want a lot of moisture under your house because it leads to rot and mold. There are multiple ways to attach a hose, from a simple garden hose to one with a much bigger diameter- and it has available threads as well as an option for a hose clamp. It even comes with a bit of nylon rope to tie on to it in case you need to drop it into some deep water and want to be able to easily retrieve it.It has adjustable settings for the depth of water you are willing to allow before it switches on, and that is done with a very straightforward slider switch. There is also a manual mode in case you just want to switch it on at will.I love the portability and the quality of the materials- it really feels well made and should hopefully last many years. The only thing I might do to modify it would be to secure a nylon panty hose or a cheesecloth around the intake area. This wouldn't really be needed for the spa or pool, but if you are draining a pond or a basement with a lot of dirt and sediment, it may help preserve the life of the impeller. Not really sure- I'm just guessing here- but if I learn anything when I experiment, I'll update this review. All in all, I think this is a great tool for moving water.

I had some high hopes for this pump. When I opened the package, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and feel of the pump. They included a rope so your not grabbing the pump by the cord and lifting it that way. The cord length is awesome! most pumps don't have that kind of length. They also make it very easy to clean out the pump as well. Among the attachments to connect various hoses were nice (wish the connectors were actually one way valves). I did experience a major problem with my pump however. I switched it into automatic mode, the pump didn't shut off. I dropped it into the area to drain the water and worked fairly well at draining. When it was done, the pump continued to run. The only way I was able to shut the pump off was by unplugging it. I tried several times to correct the problem by switching between manual mode and automatic mode. Still doesn't shut off.
