In a heavy rain, water gets inside the light/circuit board compartment. Clear caulk around the edges of the solar cell outside, and caulk around the edge where the clear plastic joins with the white plastic base (if the white version). Water seems to flow down sides of clear plastic and then seep inside along the white base, then gets into battery compartment and circuit board area. After a year and 4 months, they still work even though rain got in before I caulked the bases. If not in direct sun, one can periodically remove the batteries and recharge them in a battery charger such as the one sold here on Amazon: POWXS AA AAA Battery Charger, 12 Bay LCD Fast Recharger Station for 1.2V Ni-MH Ni-CD AA AAA Rechargeable Batteries, USB and Type C Input which has the right number of slots for the full 12 pack of lights.UPDATE: I added 1) a picture showing where to caulk around outside of solar cells with clear silicone caulk and outside around base where it meets the clear plastic to keep rain water out. When caulking the base of the solar cell inside the case, be careful of the wiring - some of the solder joints were not done well. As shown in picture 2) I had to resolder a yellow wire to the switch in one of the lights when it stopped working and had to resolder a white wire to the circuit board in another light when it stopped working, even before caulking (picture (2) is not the ones I resoldered but an original light that had filled with rain water before I caulked the lights).UPDATE 2: one of the 12 lights I bought stopped working after a rain and before caulking but was permanently damaged and would not work even after drying out - water must have damaged a circuit on the circiit board I suspect.

Installed on my back yard fence posts. Plenty of natural sunlight but only 3 of the 12 lights installed still work not even a year after installation. Knowing this now, I should have spent a little more to get a better product.

I would have rated them higher, but they are quite light, all plastic. We'll see how long they last. They look good and are easy to install.

BUYER BEWARE... THESE LIGHTS ARE CHEAP AND THE COMPANY WILL NOT HELP YOU ONCE PURCHASEDI bought these lights for my fence one year ago. Bought 3 dozen of them. Upon arrival most of them appeared to work. However, 3 of them did not light at all. In addition, several of the lights had scratches across the solar panel itself. So upon just receiving the product, I was not happy that they were not all "like new".Secondly, the product itself feels cheap. It's extremely light and appears to have little consideration made during it's assembly. If you're someone who likes things to look identical, then these lights aren't for you. They have two screw holes on the bottom of the base for you to attach to your fence (or other material), but the holes are not always on the same side of the light. I'm basing this on the position of the on/off switch on the upper part of the light as a point of reference. As i was installing these lights, I kept the on/off switch on the inside of my fence, however, because of this, the screw hole position varied from post to post.Third, just one year after having them installed, I can tell you without fail that these lights ARE NOT WATERPROOF. For a product named "Solar FENCE POST caps", I don't think it's unfair to assume that these should be somewhat resistant to the elements. THEY ARE NOT. I've attached several pictures to this review to show you the quality of the product after just one year of use. They are extremely prone to collect water, and in addition to water, the amount of mold and other bacteria these collect is simply unacceptable. Taking one of these lights apart showed me just how filthy they get. Out of the 31 fence post caps i installed, ALL 31 collected water. The collected water also makes electrical shorts extremely prone to happening and ultimately will kill the battery and/or light depending on if you live in a high humidity area given the water vapors which can't escape.Fourth, the company itself is one of the closest things to a sham company I've dealt with in a while. I contacted them several times. Each time with a new problem we were having with their lights. First, when I told them several of their products came damaged, they blamed the shipper and said they would not replace them. Then, when I called to tell them their lights were collecting water, they told us that I needed to take it apart and apply my own water sealant to make it waterproof. Third, when I finally told them I was extremely unhappy with their lights, they said that I had to ship them all of the lights back so they can review the products for damage before they would consider refunding us our money. Simply put, this company is not going to help you once you buy these. They will disregard you and put any costs of removing them from your fence and shipping it back to them squarely on you. And even then they would not guarantee a refund.Lastly, just to elaborate how cheap the product is... this light is made with parts that can be bought online for less then 2 dollars. The parts in this product are the plastic housing, a small sheet of aluminum to reflect the light, a single LED, a single rechargeable battery, the on/off switch, and the wiring between the switch, light, and battery. In summary, this "outdoor" light cannot survive the elements and the company will not help their customers without putting them through the ringer first.Ultimately, in the end, I had to eat the cost of these lights and buy a completely new set of lights (which are waterproof and have lasted several months now).(I'd also like to point out I tried getting a refund through Amazon but they directed us to speak with the manufacturer for any refunds)
