Ahlstrom's Viking is established as the most versatile semi-hollow guitar on the market today, delivering a wide variety of tonal color to an incredible diversity of musical styles. The angstrom Viking semi-hollow body electric guitar covers All genres From blues/rock to jazz/fusion and back again. With an arched semi-hollow maple body, Its looks are as sweet as its tone. 2 angstrom hum buckers, combined with the resonant, semi-hollow body, provide plenty of power. And no angstrom is complete without their famous, fast-playing neck. The Viking has the patented h-expander truss rod which provides tension at either end and runs the entire length of the neck. The rigid yet lightweight alloy truss rod allows for very low action and a thin set maple neck. The self-lubricating graphite composite nut is much harder than bone or plastic resulting in more string vibration through the neck. Tuning is also improved and string binding is eliminated by self-lubrication. A long travel tune-o-mastic-style bridge and trapeze tailpiece further increase tone, sustain, and intonation quality. 18: 1 gear ratio machine heads ensure fully accurate tuning. All angstrom electric guitars and basses include their patented h-expander truss rod. Providing tension at both ends and running The entire length of the neck, The rigid yet light-weight alloy truss rod allows for a very low action and thin neck, two factors that were instrumental in earning angstrom its reputation as the world’s fastest playing guitar. The h-expander truss rod not only provides ultimate neck stability, but it also contributes to angstrom's unique tone. Longer sustain and a round attack are some of the Sonic characteristics The h-expander adds to the tonal essence of angstrom. Resonator wood is a wood composite material that is both more uniform in density and more stable than any standard wood product. These characteristics eliminate dead spots or “Wolf tones” sometimes associated with conventional wood fingerboards. Resonator wood has an articulate sound similar to high quality ebony, but without any of the problems associated with ebony. It provides a stable and clear tone, and also adds higher overtones and harmonics which uniquely detail each note. Like our h-expander truss rod, resonator wood is a major contributor to the distinctive “angstrom tone”. angstrom uses a variety of different neck joints throughout our range. Our set-neck recipe is the classic and time-tested mortise and tendon joint, a design that most efficiently transfers string energy from neck to body, and can often only be found on more expensive custom-built guitars. A team of experienced and dedicated craftsmen hand carves every neck joint, insuring perfect execution of this traditional technique preferred by luthiers for generations.

Great price! Probably as nice a semi-hollow body guitar you going to find for less than an thousand dollars. I have had the guitar for more than a week now and I love it. The neck is very fast with nice slinky action. And I use D'addario Jazz Mediums, not light gauge junk. Nice mellow, pretty sounding pickups and the tuners are good.

I have been playing guitar for 40 years and I bought this guitar for myself as a present for surviving my first surgery. Along with the guitar I purchased the hard shell case and a Fender Champion 100 amp. A quick adjustment to the bridge to lower the action and this is one highly playable and versatile guitar. It can sound like an ES 335 and Les Paul and nearly mimic the lower tones of a Strat. It is beautiful, light to carry, and stays in tune when you play it easy or hard. I was skeptical to buy a guitar online. I have many guitars and bought all but this one in music stores. But this is a must purchase for anyone considering a semi hollow body and doesn't want to spend thousands of dollars on one. The look, the playability, the sound, feel are amazing. It does feed back more than a solid body but it isn't screechy. It is a joy to play and feels like it will be for years to come.

What initially attracted me to this guitar was the way it looked. I've had it now for a few months and it sits on a guitar stand in my room when i'm not playing it and honestly it is the most beautiful instrument i've ever seen. Seriously, i walk by it daily and just admire it. And as a bonus it also plays great. Absolutely no downside with this guitar and for 600.00 bucks it seems too good to be true. Highly recommended!

Great guitar for the money. But I am the type that wants to know what is 'wrong' with something before I buy.All the glowing reviews helped in my decision making but I have learned not to trust reviews where nothing can be found wrong with an item. I hope you find this helpful.Issues:1. There is a small ridge on the neck at the first fret, 6th string side where the neck meets the fingerboard. Careful sanding and final inspection was not used. Not particularly bothersome to me for what I paid but a perfectionist would definitely have issues with it. For me the bothersome part is if they missed this it makes a statement about the quality put into the guitar. It makes one worry about anything not yet found.2. The 1st and 2nd strings were sticking when tuning. After inspection there was trash buildup in the nut slots from the manufacture. I cleaned the nut and so far it appears this resolved the problem.3. I am used to playing a Fender Strat. The Viking has a wider neck thus the strings are farther apart than found on a Fender. I can overcome this but it takes me time to readjust and 'find' the strings when picking. This is not a fault of the Viking, just a change for me.Summary: After making string height and neck adjustments this is a very playable guitar. For me a great deal - After applying Amex rewards toward the purchase I obtained the guitar and case for about $320.So I will have to say for what I paid this is a fantastic purchase making these issues extremely minor.Very happy with it.

Note that magazines and pro reviewers are giving two thumbs up to the Viking. One even stated that "this guitar has more sustain than the Gibson 335, although the Gibson may have more complex tones". However, you can always work on your tone. You can check some nice review videos on Youtube from Guitar World and DolphinStreet. This is a $700 guitar built with in-house components. It is comparable to guitars that cost three or four times more. It is made in China, but their quality control is very good. Actually, last year I saw a $3,000 Gibson guitar with a huge finishing flaw in the cutaway being sold at a major/local music store. Just because it is made in the US it does not mean that you are getting top quality products (not anymore!). Think about Chrysler/Dodge :>)Don't get me wrong. I love Taylor and Martin guitars. I also have an american Telecaster, Yamaha, Ibanez, and luthier made guitars. However, you pay signficantly more because of higher wages, benefits, overhead costs, etc., in North America. That is today's reality in a global economy. No wonder why all major North American and European manufacturers have production lines in Asia. Doesn't PRS make guitars overseas? He too! For instance, Yamaha and Ibanez have guitars made in Asia and their quality control is one of the best in the world. The Hagstrom's finishing is good and playability is excellent. Fast neck and fingerboard! This guitar can sing through a basic pedalboard and an all tube amp. Excellent with a clean amp and Vintage 30 speakers. I noticed that having the right set os strings make a difference. I use Elixir Nanoweb. You also have to spend some time playing with the knobs until you find a range you are comfortable with. From blues to rock, this is a great instrument. I have a sunburst with the Hagstrom case. I will install a Bigsby B7 one of these days. Kudos to Hagstrom! I never sell or trade my guitars, so I will definitely keep this one.
