It is a no regulation pencil style iron. It gets hot.The tip corrodes quickly. With patients and trial, I have been able to solder leads to LED pads on Addressable LEDs.

... but the tip it came with was different to the one pictured. Can't seem to find tips for it here or anywhere online.

I bought this to teach myself how to do stained glass, and so far it's worked really well! Be warned the first time you use it it will smoke/steam, but apparently that's pretty normal for new irons to do. I've found that I need to use a rheostat with this iron though otherwise you can't control the temperature and it will be almost impossible to get consistent solder lines.A lot of stained glass artists swear by the Hakko-601 iron but this one works great if you're on a budget or just starting out!

This soldering iron is my first and only at this point. I watched several YouTube videos and debated amongst the many options. This did the trick for me with a gel flux and 60/40 solder. I also got some copper patina for some of these frames I made. They were a hit at our Aggie Mom Boutique! 👍🏼 Whoop - for a successful first try at soldering!

This soldering iron rocks...great for stained glass...it beats the h-- out of my crappy Weller iron that burned on first use out of the box. The Weller was expensive and they refused to respond to my warranty request. Hakko quality is everything they say it is and lives up to its reputation of being a quality product.

I got so tired of looking at soldering irons by the time I found this one. I almost bought the ubiquitous FX-888D, but didn't want to spend that much until I had at least a bit of experience. The 503 Red is hands down the best soldering iron a beginner can get for the price. It's as bare bones as it gets, no temp control, no on/off switch. No bag full of all the accessories you need to get started. That's how you know every penny is going where it matters most. There are only 2 tips made for this iron, a chisel and a cone. The only place I was able to find extra tips was ordering online through Home Depot, so I stocked up with a couple of each.I started with no experience at all and have soldered everything from 12AWG to PCB through holes with this in the first month. The one thing I was afraid of was forgetting to unplug it, ruining the iron or causing a fire. I have gotten side tracked doing something else in the same room and left it on twice, for maybe an hour. Thought for sure it would kill it, but seemed to work fine still. Mainly seems to have discolored the metal, but I'm sure it took a chunk from the heating element's life. Since it's so cheap, I'm going to get another one and maybe use this in a smoke test machine.

WARNING! This is listed on the U.K. website and has great reviews, so all looks great. I purchased it and when it arrived it had an American plug on it and was a 120V item, not U.K. 240V. Good job I didn’t change the plug and plug it in! Bang! Now I have to pay international postage to send it back to the USA for a refund! Why the hell is it listed by Amazon on the UK website!

Works as expected and zero complaints. I'm no expert in soldering but I do have several irons in varying wattages and use them occasionally for hobby work. From what I can tell this unit stays steady on heat and the handle design is great. Considering the value this unit was a no brainer and I'm happy with it.
