Item arrived in product box in a second bigger box. Second small item in box also . Thermostat had come out of product box and bounced around inside bigger box. Electronic products love bouncing around and off items for a couple days. Install got heat exchanger to come on but heat pump would not. Checked connections, retried. Neither would come on. Description says made in usa. Box says mexico. Arrived without mounting srews or jumper between R/RC. You take your chances with this seller

My wife and I decided to replace our programmable thermostat with a non-programmable one. The old one was a Honeywell (model TH6220D1028) so we looked for one that physically matched it to make installation easier. Honeywell recommended this model. Sure enough, it was easy to install as the mounting holes were in the identical places and the unit covered the same area of the wall so we didn't need to use a separate back plate or repaint the wall behind the unit. It took no more than 5 minutes to unpack the new one and replace the old one. Set up was straightforward as well. This thermostat is as easy to operate as you'd expect. Four buttons. Fan: on or automatic, System: heat on or off, and Up and Down to set the desired temperature. The displayed numbers are large and easy to read and backlighting makes it easy when it's dark. This is unit is a pro model and comes with a 5 year warranty. The regular retail version comes with a 1 year warranty. The Honeywell website says this should be installed by an HVAC contractor. I had read some reviews that said Honeywell wouldn't honor the warranty if installed by a retail customer so I also asked them about this. I was told that that used to be the case, but since these are now sold through retail channels, they would honor the warranty.

Several years ago, I installed a Programmable Thermostat, which I found difficult to program. Especially when I'm not sure, when I need it on and off, Usually on in the evening, and off during the night. Especially for a whole week.So I thought a non programming system would be better.Turns out, I was right, going back to the old ways of my old unit. This unit was fairly easy to install. Although you do need some skills. Making sure the right Thermocouples go to the right screws. Not that hard, as there are only two wires. And if replacing another unit, just mark which wire is which and marl or tape one of them.I had to drill and install different mounting screws, also not a major issue. Just need an Adjustable Power Drill, and the right sized drill for the plasticinserts. So once you insert the batteries, mount the back plate, the front control panel, easily snaps on. The display is large and bright, And my unit has worked well. I set the temperature I want, and it will maintain that setting. Then I reset it for night time settingsSo if you have any minor mechanical skills and can use a screwdriver, you'll have no problems. If not, then installation can be requested, at a price.

Was an exact replacement for the old one. My 4 ton Goodman began acting very strangely after 5 years. I decided to also replace the thermostat since it has mechanical contacts inside. It was also time to replace all capacitors and relays. Both capacitors were well below the 5% rating, and the contactor and blower relays were pitted and very rough looking. Since the thermostat was a direct replacement I simply unsnapped the old one from the mounting plate and snapped the new one in. Installation time 1 minute. Total parts cost through Amazon about $120. Price not paid to repairman about $600. AC is again working perfectly. The thermostat is a straight forward easy to understand unit that simply works. Nothing fancy just solid performance. I prefer this type of thermostat over the programmable type that always sent me looking for the manual. This Honeywell is simple and intuitive, no manual needed.

My last Honeywell thermostat in this series was programmable (and still working). I had no interest in changing temperature settings other than by hand. Problem is the controls are not intuitive (and the instructions are opaque) and it is very easy to unknowingly activate the default setback settings when pressing the various control buttons. If other people try to adjust the set temperature, it is almost guaranteed they will accidentally activate the pre-sets, resulting in a potentially drastic alteration of my desired temperature. This is particularly annoying if (as happened) a cat-sitter tried to adjust the temperature when I was away for several days. On returning I searched around to see why the a/c is out of whack (seemingly), almost calling an expensive technician in, before I remembered to check the status of the thermostat. This manual thermostat is not much less expensive than the programmable version and not surprisingly it will not automatically switch from cooling to heating in the rare South Florida event that an overnight cold front drastically reduces the outside temperature. Don't try to save money by purchasing the other considerably cheaper Honeywell manual thermostat, which is smaller and with a much smaller and dimmer display (see reviews). You will regret it if either your eyesight (like mine) is less strong due to aging, and/or if the thermostat location is not in a well lighted area. Also, the cheaper version will not control a heat pump, but this one will (according to its instructions). In none of these Honeywell thermostats is the temperature setting easily visible at a glance from a distance . You have to activate the backlight display by pressing a temperature control button. My house is 18 years old and swapping out the old thermostat was simple with color-coded wiring and the instructions. I have owned the house for only two years, so I don't know if there had been any prior updating. This, and the fact that changing the temperature and heat/cool settings are a cinch is why I rate it so highly. Too many electronics have far too many bells and whistles, which I never seem to use.
