Title says it. If you need reliable offline cloning because you don’t like using software like me, this is my go-to.

This was used as an replacement for another 2 bay HDD dock with a 24W power supply. The two HDD used were 2 MLC SSD drive. While using the previous HDD dock, games would suddenly stop working and gets kicked to the Xbox Home screen with a message of "USB drive has been detected". This error message implies the SSD rebooted, the dock rebooted, or the Xbox had to reinitialize the USB connection. This happens with not just one game, but games that are loading a lot of data, like Borderlands and Skyrim. After checking with the power requirement, 5V @ 1.5A (7.5W) and 5V @ 1.7A (8.5W), in theory the old HDD dock of 24W should be able to handle it. Taking a simplified account of each bay takes half of the 24W, that means each bay should be able to provide 12W. In theory this means the old HDD dock should have been able to provide the needed power. After swapping the old dock with this 36W dock, the sudden crashes pretty much disappear. Now it may be pointed out it could have been an defected dock, but this happens on another 2 bay dock with a 24W power supply. Based on this, it appears the extra 12W this dock provides is what is allowing a stable operation with the Xbox.At this point, the power supply seems to be the culprit, but it is most likely not the case. Most likely the problem is the internal regulators that are going to each bay. The power supply is at 12V while the SSD are for 5V, that means there must be a regulator that drop the 12V to 5V. Since the HDD dock came with a 36W power supply, this implies the regulator is designed to supply more power than the HDD dock that came with a 24W power supply.

Regarding cloning a Windows OS drive:Bought a hardware disk duplicator that works offline (needs no connection to a computer to work) and attempted to copy my system drive over to the SSD: Failure again. In the end the only thing that worked was disconnecting the system drive and connecting the SSD, and using a repair drive with recovery media to actually do a new install on the SSD.Conclusion: I strongly suspect that the system drive being cloned to MUST be equal or larger in PHYSICAL size (total partition size doesn't matter, it's the physical capacity of the drive) than the drive being copied, with no exceptions. I also suspect that other drives that are not system drives MAY successfully be cloned using the software to reduce partition sizes, but NOT system drives. The drive bays on this cloner/toaster ARE actually marked A and B, but they are hard to see in the black plastic and are recessed rather than raised and colored. The instruction manual illustrations point out everything BUT which drive bay is which- a simple line with "A" and one with "B" would have been a nice inclusion. The instructions and button maneuvers described to clone a drive off line are wonky. A different button set up would make more sense. Also the indicator lights are counter intuitive when cloning. A flashing light would be better to indicate what portion of the drive was being copied, with finished portions remaining solid, and portions not yet done, not lit.The drive did clone my OS drive to an SSD and I was able to confirm the partitions were all there but it would not boot and could not be repaired. I am keeping the cloner though for future use.

I thought I'd add that I bought yet another of these units. Great product/customer service.I originally posted a one-star rating for this product, after having received three apparently defective units. See original post below. In response to my post, the Seller reached out yet again to address the problem, and sent a fourth to try. I discovered that I was not operating the unit per the instructions, due to my misinterpretation of their description of disconnecting the USB during cloning. I believed that un-mounting the USB drive would be sufficient, when directed in the instructions to disconnect the USB during cloning. I discovered that the cable must actually be removed from the computer. Once done, both of the units I have are working fine.I can't say enough about the extraordinary efforts the Seller made to stand behind their product, having sent a total of four units to me while I sought a solution. It was worth the effort, as I now love the unit, and will order more. The original post and my response to the Seller via email are included below for reference.[ to Customer Service rep]:I received the docking station, and it works fine.I discovered that I had been operating it incorrectly after all. I had misinterpreted the owner’s manual: where the manual said “make sure there are no usb connection”. I was unmounting the docking satation from within Windows, thinking that would make sure there are no usb connection So, once I removed the USB cable from the computer, both your replacement, and another, docking station are now working fine, with successful cloning operations.I apologize for not figuring this out more quickly, and I greatly appreciate your diligent pursuit of a solution. Now rated 5-star.Original Post:WARNING....not a viable product. I really wanted this item to work. I ordered three of them trying to get one that works, one after another, and ended up returning them all. I worked closely with customer service, who did try to stand by their product but, in the end, all they did was read the simple operating instructions to me. Based on my experience, they simply don't have a working product. I think they've been able to keep selling them because buyers don't go to the trouble to fully test them when they arrive. The first unit would not function at all on USB 2.0 ports. The next two read drives OK, and would clone drives, but would never indicate progress during cloning via the LEDs per the instructions, nor would they ever indicate that the cloning process was complete...again via the LEDs. The frustrating part was that I put a lot of effort into trying to get one that worked, working closely with customer support. After three failed units, I tried to get the company to have one shipped to themselves, and verify that they had a known working unit. They wouldn't do this, instead requesting me to make a video of myself operating the unit...which was pointless, as the instructions are very simple and extremely easy to follow. Additionally, when I commented to customer service that there was an identical unit on Amazon, they asked for the link, which I provided. Their response was that this was not the same unit. It is, however, perfectly clear that it is exactly the same manufacturer, only with a different brand stamped on it. Search for"Sabrent USB 3.0" and you'll see exactly the same unit.
