About this item

  • Built for maximum durability and long life with impact drivers
  • Innovative pressed carbide tip with aggressive cutting angles for faster drilling and longer bit life
  • One-piece construction withstands higher torque loads than standard quick-change bits
  • Black oxide finish resists corrosion and increases life of bit

IRWIN Impact Performance Series Tapcon installation bits are engineered for maximum durability and long life with impact drivers. They have a built-in hex collar stop feature for drilling the perfect hole depth for Tapcon screws, as well as other concrete screws. There's no need for the frustrating task of marking drill bits with masking tape, wrapping electrical wire around the bit, or using cumbersome stop rings to get the perfect depth ‒ once the hex collar is flush with the concrete surface, hole is the perfect depth! They're available in multiple lengths for drilling the most common hole depths for masonry fastener applications. They have a one-piece construction that withstands higher torque loads than standard quick-change bits that are built with a two-piece design. Plus, they have a black oxide finish that resists corrosion and increases the life of the bit, and a 1/4" quick-change shank that's designed to work with impact drivers, as well as reduce slipping in standard drill chucks. Tapcon is a registered trademark of Illinois Tool Works, Inc.

While the screws I used didn't have to have a starter hole I like to be able to prevent pressure on the wood. This drill bit went all the way through the landscaping timber easily and worked for the entire job. 40 timbers 4 holes per timber. very pleased with the product.

It is one size smaller that I want, but that is my mistake. Quality is good.

This drill performs really well cutting 4" deep holes in my septic tank that has a high ratio of small aggregate to concrete. I am using a Skil 1/2" hammer drill to drive it and it takes a couple of minutes per hole. I had planned to use the screw drive adapter that is compatible with this drill bit to drive the TAP screws into the concrete but, in my case, the screws require an impact driver to seat them.

I am a huge fan of Irwin's line of impact performance series power bits and drill bits. They are very well made, durable, and precise. These are no different...with a heavy, solid feel to them they are made to last and stay sharp after multiple uses. Much better than those cheap bits that come with the masonry screws. The 1/4" hex shank allows it it to be used in an impact which means you don't need to lug a drill and impact around the job site. Drill the hole with the impact, put you 5/16 nut setter in the impact or if you have the attachment slide it over this bit and tighten the screw.....fantastic
