It's OK but this is the second one I've had to buy. The last one started leaking fluid by the bowl attachment. I couldn't see any stress point and I also couldn't get it to stop leaking.

I have two of the KA ice cream maker attachments. This one was purchased for the KA KSM DC drive 6qt mixer that has the fluted bowl. I ended up returning that mixer because it was packaged so poorly that it got all dented up in transit and I then picked up the normal/regular 6qt unit that needed the other ice cream maker. The only reason I kept this one if for the extra bowl (so I would always have a cold bowl in the freezer). The only difference between the two units appears to be the adapter that goes on the blade attachment and a slightly smaller mixing unit. Using these two items from the other Ice cream maker allows me to use this as a second bowl. Be aware that this unit will NOT fit the standard 6qt mixer (the adaptor and mixing blade) it was made for the KSM 6qt and possibly the 7qt model. Made up a batch of custard French vanilla the other day and this unit performed flawlessly turning out a good "soft serve" ice cream in 20-25 minutes - this of course has to be put into the freezer for a couple of ours to make it good for serving, but this is normal even for the self contained high $$ units (the ones that have a built in compressor). I noticed that even after having a good freeze on my ice cream that while cleaning out the bowl the water I was using was still getting cold enough to freeze to the side of the bowl. This shows me that there is ample cooling in this bowl for even the most finicky of ice cream mixes. I've also made several "non-custard" based ice creams with this unit, and even though some of the other reviewers have said this doesn't work so well I am curious if they actually cooled down the mix to an almost freezing temp prior to trying to use the unit. One other thing I do for the non-custard bases is to use a tablet or two of Junket rennet just dissolve the rennet in cool water, stir into your pre chilled mix and wait for about 10 minutes before you put it in the unit. I've been using Junket since I was a kid (50+ years) and have never had a bad "non-custard" ice cream even in the old hand cranked ice and salt type of freezers! Highly recommended attachment for you KA mixer!!

Though the novelty has worn off, the ice cream maker attachment is a fantastic tool for making top-notch ice cream without an expensive, dedicated machine. To use this, simply freeze it overnight in your freezer. They recommend 18 hours of freezer time if memory serves me well. When you take it out and cinch it down into your KitchenAid base, make sure you set up the paddle and *turn the mixer on* before you start pouring liquid in. Part of the magic of this ice cream maker is its ability to freeze liquids incredibly fast. If you don't turn the unit on before pouring liquid, whatever you pour in will freeze to the walls and jam (or worse, break) the paddle attachment.Ice cream from this has come out incredibly smooth and perfectly aerated. Most of the time, we're getting incredibly thick ice cream in no more than 20 minutes at the lowest speed setting. I recommend being very careful about the volume of cream/mix you put in the maker, since it expands significantly. We have made banana peanut butter ice cream, as well as mint chocolate chip, both times without boiling the cream mixture first. We also made something slightly more complex – a matcha ice cream – which did require the heating that makes the consistency better. There are so many different recipes you can do with this mixer that the possibilities are endless.Cleaning is a breeze! Make sure to let it sit out overnight in a drying rack to make sure you get all condensation off of it.For storage, we keep this in the freezer with a layer of saran wrap over the top. The saran wrap keeps freezer smells from embedding in the interior surface.Lastly, make sure not to use metal implements like spoons or forks on the inside of this maker, as they can scratch the stick-free surface.Overall, highly recommended and great fun!

Sure easy to use, first couple of tries I did not leave it running long enough so ice cream was not as creamy. It really does need to run for the full 30 minutes. Also, if you make a full batch of ice cream you will need to keep an eye on it so it doesn't expand and dribble out of the bowl.

We have a very old KitchenAid mixer that my husband inherited from his grandmother. We love it and until now, have only used it as a “mixer”. I ordered the KitchenAid KAICA Ice Cream Maker Attachment from Amazon.com last week and froze the bowl for a couple of days. Last night I decided to make some ice cream from our fresh goat’s milk. I cooked the custard/ice cream mixture and chilled it in the freezer for a while. I attached the drive piece to the shaft of the mixer, twisted the bowl onto the base, then added the dasher to the bowl, and poured in the chilled ice cream mixture.I locked the tilt head, turned the mixer to “stir” and walked away. Half an hour later, we had delicious soft serve ice cream! The way I see it is, why buy a $19.88 stand-alone ice cream maker from the big box store that may last you a full year, when you can pay a little more and have a sturdy, long lasting attachment to a piece of equipment we already have? I know that I will be using this many, many more times. We can’t wait to start experimenting with flavors! Thank you Kitchenaid, for a well-made product.

Item arrived quickly and was as expected. It fit my 6 qt KitchenAid Professional 6000 bowl lift model (Costco model type) and made fantastic ice cream from recipes in the small recipe book included in the box.
