You need to pick it up. The dish is large and awkward to hold in a way that prevents the bottom from falling off.

This butter dish is solid and well made. The top fits perfectly within the raised sides of the bottom part of the dish. I put the butter out during the day and then put it in the frig when I go to bed. The butter has always stayed totally fresh for days. I recommend this butter dish.

Description specifies 'air tight lid' & in 'Questions' it again states again, 'Yes' to the question 'Is this butter dish airtight?'. Well, it is NOT!Can't be 'cause the glass top, although fitting nicely, does not snap tight and there's plenty of 'wiggle room', disallowing this claim.3 stars for nice color [turq.] & glass lid. Minus 2 stars for not telling the truth!

I came across this butter dish and I had a feeling it would be great. But I thought (and still think) there’s no way I would pay 40$ for a butter dish. So I decided to get a classic full glass butter dish at my local Canadian Tire for 10$ instead. But it was really bad, noisy, shaky, bulky, and didn't even fit well in my fridge's butter compartment. I returned it before even using it.I came back here and I guess I was lucky to find this Kivy butter dish at 18$ with some kind of coupon. Deal. And right out of the box, I knew it would be perfect. Elegant, well made, not too big. I was not sure about this dark blue color, but black was not available. In the end I also really like the color.Sure, as others mentioned, a pound of butter (standard Canadian size pack) won’t fit in this dish! Don't even try. But I don’t think it’s a bad thing. Do you really need to have your full pound in the dish and on the countertop? I don't. And don’t try to fit 3/4 or even 1/2 a pound, it’s not gonna fit either! But a quarter pound fits perfectly and looks great, it lasts more than a week for me before I need to refill, probably a few days if your family uses more butter. It’s really easy to cut a pound in 4 equal parts. If you stock your butter in the freezer, you just need to move it in the fridge 24 hours ahead, then it’s easy to cut. And a quarter pound looks so much nicer in a dish (and on a coutertop) than a full pound.The wooden (bamboo or acacia) dish sure looks a lot better. But I had a bad experience a few years ago with one of those: after some time the wooden lid started to smell really bad, like old rancid butter, and it was impossible to get rid of the smell (I tried everything), I had to throw it away. So I now believe this rigid plastic dish will be better and will last a lot longer. I will update this review if ever it doesn’t.Overall, I think this butter dish is awesome and I recommend it! Keep on spreading!

Since it's just glass on plastic, I don't think this qualifies as "airtight", but nevertheless it's a good butter dish. Judging by the feel of the plastic and glass I can toss this in the dishwasher without any concern when the need arises.

I prefer butter to the fake stuff, but don't like the hard butter from the fridge to spread on toast, etc. This butter dish works great that I can leave my butter on the counter, and it remains soft and ready. I have run the butter dish through the dishwasher many times and it has held up well. The white bottom has remained nice and white and has not discolored or warped.

I Love this butter holder I have it in my fridge at all times when I need butter I feel like it’s fresh and I like that it’s glass 10/10 for me. Simple nothing too fancy so if you’re looking for something more high end, maybe not get this, but it was very good for the price and it has been sturdy for me and I’ve had it for about a year already. Also presentable, so if you wanna leave it out of the fridge and use softer butter for dinner it’s still looks nice.

I wish other colors where same as light grey:(I use it to put butter stick & feta cheese cubs for breakfast table & the lid helps to keeping cheese & butter well.

Container will not hold a pound of butter

The glass lid is very sturdy & heavy. However there is no handle to remove the lid & I could drop & break the lid. It's good for sticks of butter which I do not buy. I cross cut the butter & will not fit widthwise, the lid touches & squashes the butter. I will be returning this butter dish.It did not meet my needs.
