Used this brass closet spud to restore a 1920 toilet that is still in remarkable condition. It's a shame they don't make porcelain toilets of this quality anymore. Installation was fairly easy but I have all the special tools for such a task.

This part fits a 1930 toilet with separate tank. It is the part that goes on the bowl. The bowl has a rear horizontal port without access to the inside to secure the connector. This is for a blind hole with a rim to make a water tight seal. I lucked out finding this and bought this just in case. It saved the day on a complex repair.

This is a nice part, but comes with a galvanized anti-friction washer that fits between the nut and the (ceramic) toilet. If there is any dampness at all - probably just what's in the air - it will rust, rust, rust. The galvanized finish will come right off and then the rust starts. Likely there is also some galvanic corrosion between the washer and the brass nut mashed against it, especially once the thin galvanizing is gone.. In any case, within three days of installation there was already rust, and about a third of the galvanizing was gone. Removed it and started looking for a brass friction washer, which I'll either find or make. Never use steel (or aluminum) parts or fasteners around a toilet, it's always bad news. Be especially careful with the bolts that hold the toilet to the floor. As they rust, the toilet loosens, and water can escape and slowly damage your floor.

I purchased a 1912 house which is 95% original, including the toilet. I had never worked with one of these before and wasn't quite for sure how it would work. Worked perfect for my needs and was a perfect fit with no leaks.Do yourself a favor and order the correct tool to use with these at it will make installation of the new one and removal of the old one much easier!
