Does the trick. Have really bad soil drainage and it expensively to have lawn aerated. Got this on sale for a great price (for good deals buy at end or out of season!) Used with lawn detacher spray and followed with fertilizer. Lawn bounced back quick.

This tool is just what it says. It lets you push 15 short metal spikes into the ground, covering about 1/3rd of a square foot with each use of the tool. The median lawn size in the USA is about 10,871 square feet (yes I googled that), so in just 32,613 uses of this tool you can put a nice grid of holes in the median lawn.Maybe I'm insufficiently dedicated to lawn care, but that sounds utterly mad to me and encourages me to perhaps replace my lawn with native plants...or rocks. But perhaps you have a teen to punish or something. Whatever your reasons, you are considering this tool so here's my review:The tool itself does what it claims as far as punching holes in a lawn. It also comes with a little weed removal tool.Assembly was straightforward, requiring the installation of 4 screws and 15 spikes using a combination of allen screws, a stamped sheet metal wrench, and a t-handle wrench that is fancier than the lawn spike tool itself. There are some pointless plastic caps to put over nuts if you want, but they don't make the whole thing look any better. As for longevity, there is a lot of fairly unprotected steel so I suspect rust is going to be a problem but I don't know. I can say that if I had to use this on my entire lawn it would last longer than my lawn would.I'm not going to try my whole lawn but I have a patch that doesn't seem to be draining well so I'm trying this to see if it helps with drainage.

If you buy this just be aware that you have to put every single spike into the bottom. It took quite a bit of manual labor to set up. Once it was set up it worked super well and was very durable. For the cost I’d buy it again and do the manual labor of putting it together. Once together it’s about three feet tall and maybe about 3 pounds. The hard work isn’t how heavy it is but when using it, it can be very tiring. The value in this product was Great. It’s very durable and worked well the whole time we used it.

Used it. Took a while and didn't bring any mud out like the regular aerator
