About this item

  • Heavy duty, ANSI/BHMA grade 1 door closer certified for 10 million cycles
  • Double lever arm can be installed for regular or top-of-jamb mount, or for parallel arm mount with included mounting shoe
  • Adjustable spring force for use on interior doors to 60" wide, or exterior doors to 48" wide to meet ADA compliance
  • Non-handed arm permits installation on doors with hinges on right or left side
  • Aluminum powder coat finish helps provide resistance to corrosion

The LCN 4040 door closer has a double lever arm, includes a parallel arm shoe, has an aluminum powder coated finish, and is for use in heavy duty applications on interior or exterior doors. The hydraulic cylinder is made of cast iron, has a forged steel piston and double heat treated steel pinion for resistance to wear, wide bearings for increased load capacity, and is certified for 10 million cycles. All-weather hydraulic fluid helps reduce the need for seasonal adjustment. The double lever arm can be installed for a regular or a top-of-jamb mount, or for a parallel arm mount with the included parallel arm shoe. The door closer is non-handed, for installation on doors with hinges on the right or left side, and includes a plastic cylinder cover. The spring force required to open the door is adjustable from sizes 1 to 6 for interior doors up to 60" wide, or exterior doors up to 48" wide, to help comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) when properly installed. The aluminum powder coat finish helps provide resistance to corrosion. The door closer meets American National Standards Institute (ANSI)/Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) A156.4 grade 1 standards for commercial buildings. It is also Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed for a 3-hour fire rating, and complies with the UL 10C positive pressure fire test.

Commercial grade door closers mechanically return a door to closure for security, conservation of heating and cooling, and fire safety. A hydraulic cylinder attached to an arm regulates the speed of closure with separate adjustments for the door's sweep and latch (the final 10 degrees) phases of movement, and backcheck for opening resistance to protect walls and guard against wind gusts. Single lever (also called track) arms maintain a low profile when installed on either side of a door, while double lever arms provide greater mechanical efficiency. In either a regular mount (on the hinge, or pull, side of the door) or a top jamb mount (on the reverse, or push side), the double lever arm projects perpendicular to the door. A parallel arm mount must be installed on the push side, for the double lever arm to occupy the recess of the door frame when at rest for a low profile.

LCN manufactures door closers and other door hardware products. The company, founded in 1926, is headquartered in Princeton, IL.

The closer replaced an older unit. Installation was easy. It performed perfectly without adjusting the timing.

Perfect replacement for our old worn out door closer. I thought this was the exact model, but it turns out our old one was a 4041, which is the same, but older model.VERY easy to install, it was just a couple of screws. The adjustment was also very easy with an allen wrench. The only hard part about the adjustment is that ours was upside down, so you have to make sure your diagram is in the same orientation to adjust the correct screws. Once I figured that out, it was easy to adjust to exactly what I wanted, which was a slow close, and a quick last few inches to make sure it latches.I couldn't use the new arm, because the old one was welded instead of screwed on, so I'll have to cut that off to change it, but it was an EXACT fit, nothing had to be changed or modified at all! This thing works like a champ and we are all very happy with the results.

The closer instructions are very clear and understandable, just take your time and read all the instructions. Closer works and looks great. I have these closers mounted on many doors in a plant that has a negative air flow, the air literal pulls the doors closed. These closers are holding up to the air flow pulling the doors closed. I would give this product 5 stars, but my last order of closers came with a closer that looked like it was returned to the company which had all the hardware missing and wasn't even the correct closer. They should examine returned products better. If you get a closer that the box has shipping tape on it to hold it closed, examine it carefully. The return process is a pain, unless you live right next to a Kohls department store, where you have to take it to return the product.

Product fit and worked as described. Only problem is it arrived with none of the installation hardware so I had to scrounge up parts to install it. Literally came with a perfected sealed bag where the parts usually are shipped in but none were there. Otherwise good product. Just a big waste of time having to find parts at the time of installation a long ways away from a store.

Came with an EDA arm and not the regular arm as advertised. They mount completely different. Also didn't have a stick on template in the box. The price would have been fair to good if it had the proper arm.

I'd give you 5 stars if the price would stay stable. Why did they go up $30, back down, now back up $20? And now, the price is jumping up ANOTHER $40? C'mon folks, let's get this under control. I can't sanction further purchases under these unstable pricing conditions. It's a good product, no question. Get these ridiculous pricing variances under control, or give me a quantity pricing option to buy in larger lots to keep our pricing reasonably stable, please.

Great company, great product. You get what you pay for. This closer should last many years in a commercial environment with a heavy wood door. I took off the previous closer that had been there many years. It was a LCN closer.

This is actually a series of models. This review is for the "Extra heavy-duty Closer Arm" version.Extremely sturdy and versatile. Very easy to install, and it required NO adjustment to work absolutely perfectly (I just dialed in the proper number for the size and type of door). It's a little expensive, but for an exterior steel door, it's great! Just wished that the darker color was not so much more money.
