When the LINKMICRO Digital Microscope appeared in my Amazon Vine Recommended products search I thought, wow actually something that can be very useful to me so I requested it. It's useful because my late grandfather left my brother and myself his entire coin collection. The collection is huge you need a well lit area with a magnifying glass to verify all the mint markings and search for rare coins. Yesterday I received the microscope and today I was able to test it out. The first thing I got to mention is this device is very portable. You can take it wherever it's convenient to do your viewing. I included photos I shot of several coins ranging from silver dollars and nickels from the 1800s. One is an Indian Head nickel that is so worn out you can not see the face on the coin, but with this microsope you can. I also included a photo of a magnolia tree flower petal. Note.. I did not mount on a slide. It was just placed on a sheet of white paper under the digital microscope. I plan on picking up some microscope slides so I can check this out further. I also want to mention that my compute operating system of choice is Linux and this device works fine with it! Just plug the device with a USB cable into your PC and the menu on the microscope will prompt you and ask if you want to enable it as a mass storage device. Select OK and the storage on the Microscope will be available on your Linux Desktop. I tested the microscope with a SanDisk 64gb sdcard. Another handy feature this microscope has is it can record video. I plan on picking up a Petri Dish and drop some swamp water in it. There's lots of microorganisms found in swamp water. I like to look for Parameciums and Amebas The goal is the get a video of the microorganisms in action. The video quality is great! It's built well, The adjustable stand an is machined out of aluminum. As you will see from the photos, the stand is not high enough to get an entire silver dollar in view but it's not a deal breaker. I am going to check to see if I can back out the stand from the bottom plate a bit, there is a collar you can tighten above the plate and it looks like I can raise it by 6mm, it may be enough. Maybe I can 3d print a bottom spacer.I believe this digital microscope is a really great value. Photo quality is great and it has way more capability of other well known digital microscopes. It does not require to be tethered to a computer, it is powered by a USBC charged battery, you can take it anywhere, grab your photos. The microscope LCD display is great for previewing and even good enough for viewing. Focus range is perfect, I didn't have an issue with any of the objects viewed.

I checked out ALL of the video magnifiers in this price range and this seemed the best. It has a mental stand, plus a little bigger screen size and you can do something all the others can not do, zoom out to view the whole object on video (ie: coins). Also built very well over all.

Okay, so what's the difference between a magnifying glass and microscope? Traditional microscopes use clear glass slides and backlight to illuminate objects from the back, then you look through the lens to enlarge the contents. A magnifying glass is a lens you look through to enlarge something on the other side, usually with light from on top. This device feels like a mix of the two, and the definitions have caused a bit of conflict in my family. Regardless of which definition you like, it's pretty amazing. You get a small 5" screen, about the size of a smartphone, connected to a camera that offers 10x optical zoom, plus an additional 3x digital zoom. The optical zoom is pretty impressive, very clear and detailed. Digital zoom, as with other devices, is less impressive, but still decent when viewing on the screen. The camera is framed in lights, which are adjustable from dim to bright light, or no light at all.The scope sits in a nice metal stand with adjustable guide, to lower or lift it above the base. Or, you can take it out and carry it with you. It has a battery for portable use, and offers a micro-SD (TF) card slot to take pictures or videos which can be copied to another device for use. On the camera shaft, there's a few buttons to turn it on/off, zoom in and out, edit settings, or change the mode between still pictures and video. It's really easy to adjust the focus, too.In addition to being a standalone device, it can also plug in to a computer to work as a camera - just open the camera app and the contents show on a big screen. This would be great for a classroom where you can show content to everyone.I love how involved my kids are in using this. They keep asking to use it to look at anything they find: leaves, bread, coins, skin, etc. They'll share and change what's being viewed, and all crowd around the screen. We haven't drained the battery from full to empty, but I assume it's similar to a phone - it has lasted hours without needing a charge. For the price, especially when there's a coupon code or discount, it's a great deal!
