ULTRA-QUIET DC SINE-WAVE WATER PUMP
All MagTool N series Protein Skimmers come with a ultra-quiet high performance adjustable DC water pump pre-installed. A thick insulated ABS shell ensures there is nearly-zero vibration, while also providing a corrision resistant finish. The 6-pole DC motor's inner cores are made from high-quality copper windings & will provide uninterrupted operation. The needle wheel impeller will also create micro bubbles, help ensure a silent function, & vigorously remove proteins from the water.

THE FLOW PLATE (CELL-CAST CONSTRUCTION)
Flow Plate (Exclusive design):The bubble plate in conjunction with the cell-cast diffuser are designed to efficiently mix air and water. The random twirling & turbulent flow are eliminated & a stable laminar flow is created inside the skimmers reaction chamber. Further maximize the performance of the protein skimmer by using the micro-adjustable valve & set the desired level for moist or dry foam protein production based on your tanks needs.
MICO-ADJUSTABLE VALVE
Protein Skimmers work by injecting small bubbles into the water column. These micro bubbles aid in capturing the proteins; Micro-adjustable valve provides precise control to concentrates the organic rich foam, and allows cleaned water to exit the skimmer chamber at its base where it is less bubble.
Meanwhile, micro-adjustable valve design also minimizes footprint, reduces skimmer height and allows for fine-tuning

It lasted 1 year and 1 day and stopped making bubbles. That makes it out of warranty by a day. It came with an open package. Jason at customer service took days to get back to me. He took weeks to tell me they won’t help me while my water quality declined. I bought a new one from IOAOI. It pulls a lot more crap out of the water and is$40 less.

I purchased in September 2024 and waited to give my complete review 90 days (Jan 2025). This Protein Skimmer (N170 Plus) is on a 108 Gall9n Mixed Reef System and stands with the rest of well known and top performing skimmers in my experience so far. Quietness is my biggest factor when picking a Skimmer and this has passed. There is a squant and faint humming sound from the pump doing it's job. Another factor is the DC control which give you the ability to crank it up or down. There is a inbed timer for the skimmer that will help prevent skimmer overflow once it is turned back on after feeding or maintenance for example. That timer can be overridden if you chose, but it is a nice included feature. The air value is very easy to operated, mine is attached to an Air Scrubber to help increase my ph, (8.40 during the day and 8.20 at nights). Skimmate is nice and thick with the help of my Automated Reefmat, my aquarium water is crystal clean. I have my skimmer controlled by my Automated Aquarium.controller... Neptune-Apex System..really great addition that has worked flawlessly since I installed it as a replacement.

I've used several smaller skimmers for nano tanks but just completed setup of a 50 gallon saltwater tank with a sump and needed a larger skimmer. This was not only the perfect size to fit in my sump, within my limited cabinet space, but setup is very easy and it started skimming properly immediately! Zero break in needed! I love the adjustability and drain as well. Lastly, the air inlet for the pump comes with the same diameter hose as my CO2 scrubber which is bonus. Some of the other skimmers don't even have a way to connect the air inlet to a scrubber which is another reason I went with this one.This skimmer is fully serviceable with four nylon screws in the base for disassembly. I absolutely love this skimmer (did I say that already?)

Just installed skimmer couple of hours ago. Skimmer take about a week to adjust and break in and usually go berserk for a while. I tuned this one for about 5 min and left it alone for 3 hours came back and it’s running like it’s been running for weeks. I’ve had a bubble magus and reef octo AC skimmers that would take forever to fine tune. The skimmer is built nice and looks and feels like a $400 skimmer. I have it hooked up to a co2 scrubber and will update in a few weeks about the progress

Was not familiar with this brand of protein skimmer. I installed it a few weeks ago and it is working like a charm. It got all the nasties out really well. We have a 75 gallon salt water tank and it seems to be a great fit for this size. Very pleased.

I was using a bubble magus curve 7 on a red sea reefer 170 and the water level in my sump was not high enough for it to work properly so I started looking in Amazon for a replacement. Came across the Magtool R170 and I was impressed by the cost and good reviews so figured I'd take a chance. All I can say is I'm blown away at the performance of this skimmer all ready, I don't have to close the valve no where near closed to get it bubbling below the cup. The bubble magus was completely closed and the bubbles still wouldn't reach the cup. Another thing is to have a DC controllable pump at this price point is just mind boggling. I have pump turned all the way up and use the flow valve to control for wet or dry skin. It's also much quieter than the bubble magus. I will update in a few months if anything changes but if your on the fence about getting one I say GET IT !!

I saw this on Amazon and was very hesitant to try it because it wasn't a known brand. I was about to go crazy with a Red Sea 300 skimmer as it was overflowing and not skimming all the time.I received the skimmer and was immediately very impressed by the build quality. It's very well constructed with quality parts. The best part is the DC motor and the ability to adjust the flow.I was having to put spacers on the bottom of my sump to raise the Red Sea skimmer or it would overflow. With this skimmer, I was able to drop it in with no spacers and it works perfectly. I currently have the controller set on 4 and it's perfect.The air intake adjustment works so well and is very easy to dial in. It's super precise and only takes about a 1mm adjustment to make a difference.I would recommend this to anyone as I run a 100% Acropora tank and it has the very best of everything with no expense spared. This skimmer is better than some 1k skimmers I've tried. It also is almost an identical copy of a Bubble Magus by the way :).
