An amusing replica of old time coffee grinders. I ran into the real deal at a thrift shop a few days after I received the Norpro. It's a pretty authentic replica except for the ceramic grinder. The old time grinder, of course, has vastly superior build (it would have to just to survive intact to the present day). When it came time to buy a new coffee grinder , I took one look at the electric coffee grinders and just shuddered and said no. My ancient grinder would not grind beans evenly unless I shook the whole unit as I pressed the on button. It was so loud I didn't want to use it in the morning. So I went with the manual .Watch out for all the little parts. I almost returned it before I ran one last check through all the packaging materials and found the final knob buried in a corner. The grinder works very well. The improvement in flavor over blade grinders is distinctly noticeable. I haven't tried to fine tune the grind yet since fiddling with the adjustment is annoying but the grind looks and tastes great in my coffee press. Not experiencing any urgent need to experiment. It's easy to overload the grinder. The reservoir for the beans is much larger than the little drawer that holds the ground coffee.Yes, it does take time to grind enough beans for 1-2 cups of coffee. However, it takes even longer for my water to boil. I just keep reminding myself: this is a great time to stop and smell the coffee.Do I regret the difficulty making more than 2 cups of coffee at a time? Much less than I expected. The improvement in coffee flavor is so significant, I'm happier drinking less coffee. Better to have 1-2 cups of happiness than 3-4 cups of bitter disappointment. The grinding action is reasonably easy. So far, it hasn't kicked off any of my carpal tunnel issues. You are better off going at a medium pace; grinding faster doesn't help much because gravity doesn't feed beans in fast enough. Grinding at a steady pace, there is no need to shake or tap the unit, the beans feed in smoothly..You can't possibly grind fast enough to overheat the coffee. The wood for the grinder is the weakest element of the build. It looks great but it's cheap, lightweight wood. It won't survive frequent washing or other forms of abuse. I just accept that and tap the drawer clean after each use. What to do if you have guests? Err...., put them to work? They might find it amusing....Overall, this is a very low cost option for a burr grinder. Unlike many burr grinders, it will produce grounds coarse enough for a french press.

Since I am slowly becoming completely organic, coffee was next on my list of products to stop buying conventionally grown. As long as I was going old school, I figured I would also eschew electricity for the bean grinding. I had zero expectations for this little machine, and thought I might well be buying some god-awful white plastic coffee grinder in a few weeks, BUT, I should have had more faith. Once I adjusted the gears to get the grind I wanted, processing beans for a nice pot of coffee was quick and easy.Additionally, this is really nice looking. Way prettier than an electric coffee grinder.

I personally love this coffee grinder. I had bought my self a french coffee press and figured that i might as well go all manual and enjoy myself. this was purchased as a black Friday gift from my hubby and it works great. I have made many cups of coffee with it already and its simple to use. I'm the only one in the house that drinks coffee so for making only one cup the size is perfect. It is a little small but it's everything I need. I would try to grind more than 1/4cup of beans at a time because it is a manual grinder. If you wanna grind enough for 8-10cups of coffee get an electric grinder. For the price and amount it grinds I love it and love using it. Very therapeutic for me as a mother to be able to spend a few minutes doing something for my self every day.

I've owned a coffee grinder for a few years now, and it's just a cheap little thing, so I decided to get my brother a "good" one when he asked me to help him pick a coffee grinder for Christmas. This coffee grinder is just amazing. The bowl is huge, and will hold enough beans to grind up 3-4 (up to 5) drawers-full of the grounds. I can make a whole day's worth of grounds in 10 minutes. The drawer is HUGE! The adjustable grinding mechanism is a dream to use. We were able to set it to grind approximately the same size as the store-bought stuff. The cool thing is, it'll grind anywhere from powder to chunks. It doesn't require a lot of work to accomplish the grinding, and it doesn't have "spillover" from the grinding mechanism into the space under the drawer. If you fill the drawer too full, it might catch on the back of the drawer space, but otherwise, the grinding mechanism doesn't toss the grounds all over the interior. The space between the drawer and the sides of the interior is as small as it possibly can get, and this is a good thing. The drawer fits tightly, but not too much so. It doesn't rattle or pop out easily while grinding. The bowl does have a limit to how many beans you can put in it, though, and that's pretty easy to gauge: just barely the top of the bowl is the top of the beans. The handle spins right above the top of the bowl, and the finer the grind, the closer the handle is to the bowl. The adjuster wheel, and the support frame can be completely covered, and it will not affect the grind. The only drawback that this grinder has is the knob that holds the handle onto the grinder mechanism may come loose. If that's the case, you'll notice before it becomes a problem, and it's just a simple matter of tightening the nut. I can't really call this part a drawback, however, merely a minor annoyance that happens occasionally, the beans may get "caught" in the space between the grinding mechanism and the base of the bowl. If this happens, just "sweep" the beans out with your finger or a small utensil. (Not while you're turning the handle, of course.)
