These are not instant read thermometers, they take time. Given time these are great to get an accurate reading of a flat surface temperature.

These guys are big, they are easy to read even without glasses. They have color codes for different types of cooking. Most helpful they have a ring with hoops so you can pick them up with a bbq fork. Must have.

I use it to monitor surface temperature on my stainless griddle because my infrared heat reader doesn't work on the shiny surface. Works great!

I was interested in how well this would work. The device shows accurate temp and I know this bc I have dual thermometers in the lid of my smoker. What I didn’t anticipate was that after two “low & slow” smokes (12+hrs) that the face of it would completely black out. I know what ur thinking, did I try to clean it? Answer is Yes! Scrubbed and scratched to no avail. Maybe if I soak it it might come clean? Otherwise, it’s not worth the money. Even when ur buying two for the price of one (2pack). Just use dual thermos in the lid…better use of ur money
