Product Overview Multi-Stage Charging Overview Enhance the performance of your battery and extend battery life. The OPTIMA D1200+ 12V Performance Charger & Maintainer employs the latest in digital, multi-stage charging. With 4 fully automatic modes your D1200+ 12V Performance Charger & Maintainer will sequence through stages 1 through 4 as below: Stage 1 - System Check and Battery Analyzing: During this stage, the status bar will pulse blue. This indicates the OPTIMA D1200+ is performing a self-test, analyzing the battery connection, and checking if the battery is capable of being charged by outputting a small current to the battery. The "Connected" LED will illuminate green indicating a good connection. Note: While in analyze mode, the battery type can be changed by following the steps in the “Selecting a Charging Profile” section on page 15. This mode takes approximately 1 minute. Stage 2 - Charging: During this mode the Status Bar will be solid red. The OPTIMA D1200+ will use all of its available charging amps (as controlled by temperature) until the battery voltage is raised to 14.4 VDC (OPTIMA LiFePO4 battery setting). Stage 3 - Conditioning: During this mode the status bar will be solid amber. Batteries will hold at 14.4 VDC (OPTIMA LiFePO4 battery setting) to complete charging while conditioning the battery connected. Upon completion, the OPTIMA D1200+ will go into Auto Maintain mode. Stage 4 - Auto Maintain (Energy Saver Mode): During this mode the status bar will be solid green, indicating Stage 2 charging and Stage 3 conditioning are completed. At this time the OPTIMA D1200+ will initiate its Auto Maintain (Energy Saver) mode, which will monitor and Auto Maintain the battery only when needed to maintain a full state of charge. Fault Mode: In any above stages, if a fault condition occurs, the OPTIMA D1200+ will enter the fault mode and stop outputting. The status bar will turn OFF; the Check LED will turn ON red. Fault conditions include bad connection, reverse polarity, a battery that is below 2.5VDC or above 15.5VDC, the alphanumeric display will provide additional information. If the OPTIMA D1200+ cannot charge up the battery, such as if a 6V battery is connected instead of a 12V battery, the Check LED will be pulsing red. The OPTIMA D1200+ will go back to Stage 1 if all faults are cleared. Additional Peace of Mind Safety and Operation Features: Spark-free connection technology. Highly recommend vehicle battery charger as it is very versatile for charging agm led acid and lithium batteries. It's got a very wide range of usable selections as needed.

Not only are Optima Batteries the best, but they’re battery chargers are outstanding!They are great at charging up a battery or maintaining a battery while it’s not being used.I even had one of these big Optima chargers, go bad, for some reason, and Optima sent me another one right away!

This charger is working well. I like the digital readout and options available like AGM, deep cycle, maintain, etc. You do have to “select” what you are trying to do but it’s a single button push in most cases. Being able to ask it the state of the battery is useful. I have a 40 year old charger that still works but bought this for a new location, I’m glad I did. I may get another and put my old one on the shelf as an emergency backup, that’s how much I like it.

I had an older Optima battery that would not charge with my other chargers.Hooked this one up and had it do the battery check. Its charging now and is good to go.

Have used it 4 or 5 times and am pleased with the results. The display gives all the the info I would need. It works well with both regular and AGM batteries. I like the cord storage, light weight and compactness For storing when not in use.. It is pricey for what it is but would buy again for the features.

So this thing is pretty great at battery revival. The maintenance is amazing. The down side is the "smart technology" outwits itself. If the intent is to maybe be able to start the vehicle off this when battery is totally dead, doesn't work.Read time on the battery is also a wait to expect.Overall it is a home run. It will bring a battery back that may barely have worked before, but it's not like the normal battery chargers that will start a motor from a completely dead battery.

I bought a yellow-top Optima battery for my Subaru STI in June 2018. The car is stored over the winter. February 2019 I went to check it and noticed no power, not even a "click" when the ignition key was turned...a voltmeter showed "1 volt" (I think I left an interior light on). I have four battery chargers of different types, none of them could revitalize the STI's Optima battery. My mechanic son suggested trying an Optima battery charger. As I also have an Optima battery in my Silverado (and plan to buy one for my 2016 Buick when it needs a new battery), I decided it was worth the expense. I connected the Optima battery charger as soon as I received it to the STI's battery, and in 12 hours the battery was 80% recharged. The Optima charger seems to have technology to "reach down" and recharge a deeply discharged battery that other types of chargers cannot. Amazing. I'm thinking about having a battery-charger garage sale, I don't need the other four now that I've seen what the Optima charger can do (not only to the Optima battery, but other types as well). Highly recommended.

Really great charger and maintainer. Very well built and lots of features. Has great onboard storage of cords and keeps them nice and neat. Cords are made of good grade rubber and do not crack under the coldest day. Display is easy to read and the charger is not complicated to understand. I recommend everyone gets one they are a life saver.

This is the first charger I have ever owned that has really been well engineered. The handle and cord storage is great; the clamps are first rate (love the little light in my dark battery compartment on the boat); and the electronics seem to be very well done. I bought it because I my old Schumacher charger had died, and I had borrowed another Schumacher charger from my neighbor to charge a marine starting battery that had been heavily discharged by accidentally leaving the fishfinder on for a week. The borrowed charger simply would not recharge that $100 battery, apparently because it was so heavily discharged. After a string of cheap chargers, I went looking for a better one. This looked very nice and the reviews were good. When I got delivery of the new Optima, I tried it on that same marine battery. It analyzed it for a couple of minutes and then went right to work. I checked after 3 hours and it was still at only 50% of capacity, but by the next morning it was fully charged and it seems to work just fine now. I figure that the Optima just saved me half of its purchase price on its first job. I plan to use it to maintain my boat batteries over the winter. They don't do to well up here in northern MN. This looks like a winner.
